Default block identification

I have a Windsor engine with the following number on the block...D4AE 6015 AA13. Can anyone tell me what year of manufacture this is? Just want to make sure about the deck height. I was told it was a '78, but I need to be sure.
Thanks,
h dog

hound dog;
As near as I can tell from the gibberish in my Ford parts book ("Ford Engine Parts Interchange")you have a 351W built betwwen 1971 and '74 (D4AE-AA) but there is supposed to be a alphanumeric number like 4A18 (Jan. 18, 1974) that you didn't give us. Since the deck height changed in '74 you need that number. At least that's the way I read it. I hope this helps.

The block is a '74. In Ford part numbers the first letter is the decade (A=40',B=50's, C=60's, D=70's etc..) the first number is the year within that decade, so 'D4' = 1974. The next number = for whom it was produced A=general line. Fourth #= WHO produced it E=Engine foundry. The next number is a descriptive, 6015=351W block and the last series is change suffix's. Yours is a late 74 block judging from the line changes. Hope that this is what you wanted.

427sharpe;
That's exactly the information that I needed. Now I need to find out if '74 was the last year of the old deck height or the first year of the new. I should have that somewhere.

Ah, yes! Here we go! 1969-70 deck height is 9.480, 1971-95 deck height is 9.503. From the Ford Racing catalog. Good information to have, especially if you're rebuilding a '69 or '70. Keeps you from mashing those pistons into those valves, or worse! Would give you a surprise on the compression ratio at least!
