cnc/sb build help
Hello all. I think the engine is mounted too far forward. It was ordered setup for a SB Ford and has slotted motors mounts to frame. There are two pre drilled holes in the frame rails. The mounts are bolted currently using the rear most holes. I have yet to drill the remaining two holes as I believe the engine needs to go back. The 351C that is in it, locates the oil filter VERY close to the gusset for the strut arm. I dont think the filter would come off. If the frame mounts are mounted with the forward holes, I believe the two rear exhaust tubes would have to travel radically forward before exiting the side. How are your frame mounts positioned? Thanks
Jaime
I pulled the engine and trans before getting a pic. I can get some of just the frame and mounts........

What I did with mine is loosely bolt the engine in where I thought it should be, mount the headers and side pipes. For mine the side pipe has a particular location to mount to near the rear wheels. Now I am unsure how yours is and if you are using side pipes or not, this is just how I did mine.
As for the oil filter, you can use a short, half quart filter or use a remote one. I chose a remote filter setup.
Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with a 351C I shoehorned into a Mercury Comet (essentially the same car as the Ford Maverick).
I went with the remote oil filter on the inner fenderwell, but used a second filter, an Oberg "sandwich" type filter, downstream from the cannister type for better filtering efficiency.
In over 10,000 miles, not once did I have to even clean the filter screen on the Oberg...the cannister did a very good job. I used Wix filters, they have a very good reputation here in the U.S.
Cheers!

I dont have pipes, I get to make them. If there was some ready made for a 351C that would be cool. Does yours have the oil filter located similarly? Does yours have the Mustang 2 front end also? I will try to put a pic on here showing how high the engine sits.
edit: Rats, thought I had a pic but I didnt. The rear of the engine is VERY easily 8 inches ahead of the firewall and the valve covers can not be an inch below the level of the hood opening.

My Cobra replica has the same clearance issue as you mentioned. At first I was using a short version of the Fram PH8, IIRC it was a PH43, if you are comfortable with Fram filters you might be able to get by with that one as it did clear. However, I wanted a better filter, so I had my local auto parts store cross over the PH43 and they came up with some options. I chose the K&N for the high efficiency filter rating (the same as the newer cars that use full synthetic oil use, I think it was 99%+ capture rating). Here are some photos, you can see how close the K&N is to the frame:
Your 351C will be able to use the same filter.
Cheers, hope you get this sorted! If you have the time and $$, the remote filter option really IS the best one...when I do that, I will use the high efficiency filter on the fenderwell and the Oberg sandwich type filter with the finest screen available right at the entrance to the oil cooler.

Thanks for the pics! I do not believe yours is the same as mine. Or, as I suspect, the engine is in the wrong location. I posted pics in my original "here we go" thread of the engine compartment and the location of the right motor frame mount.
