Default Roll Bar Upgrade

Does anyone have any ideas or sources for upgraded roll bars for a 2000 Superformance that will satisfy minimum NHRA or IHRA regulations. I got a lot of static from the local track tech station the last time I attended a Fun Ford event and barely managed to talk them into letting me run. The car runs in the mid 11 seconds at about 120 MPH.

I'd like not to permanently alter the car any more than required to get by and to minimize the impact on resale. I don't think that I am the first person to run into this situation so how did you guys handle it??

Thanks,

Bobby F

Bobby:

NHRA requires a 6 point cage for convertables running 13.99 seconds or faster. This means that you need two tubes that go to the front of the car, two towards the front, and two straight down (like your hoop).

Ive seen it done, but the car looks totaly stupid. My suggestion is to find a track that is laxed on the rules.

The Cobra roll bar of old is certainly outdated as far as safety goes. No professional race orginization will allow you to race with a single hoop. If a track will let you race with almost no rollover protection (single hoop) it does not say much for their safety program. But it is your life and I guess if you want to risk it, go ahead.

Racer X...
I guess this means no more Run&Guns...

Apparently one of the FFR factory cars has some bolt on (removable) side bars.

Leadfoot,
Run and Gun is a great event, but is not considered a professional competition event.

BTW This years Top Dog was running with an approved roll bar system. The guys who really run fast know how important good rollover protection is.

Hey guys; I understand the need for the roll bar system. What I was looking for was the best way to achieve the results with the minimum impact on the car's appearance.

Bobby:

I explained it already. Do you really need a six point cage to be safe? Probably not, but those are the NHRA rules like them or not.
