Default front spindle nut torque setting

Anyone know what torque setting is used on the main nut that holds the hub on the (mustang II) spindle?

Also, when wire tying nuts for safety, is it best to tie bolts together in pairs or to tie them to to the mount?

I'm not a mechanical expert, but my father always told me to spin the hub and tighten down on the spindle nut until the hub just starts to drag; then back off on the nut just a hair. Insert the cotter pin and your done. I know its not very technical or exacting but has worked for me for the past 30 years. Sorry I can't help with the tie wire question. Good Luck !!

Frank,

I am not quite sure what you mean with mount.
If the safety wire serves its duty by mounting it to any place, just do it.
Mounting to two fasteners together in pairs may just look better! I always did it that way if possible.

If there was only just one fastener I drilled or used a nearby hole to tie it to. You may check your local airfield to look around. They do it all day.

Spin the spindle nut down to about 10 lb/ft of preload, you can move it either way a bit to get the castle lined up with the hole in the spindle. Not so tight it prevents the wheel from turning easy(without the caliper on there) but not loose either.

Safety wire can be attached to anything that will hold it. I like 2 bolt pairs. Make sure it "pulls" in the right direction to tighten the fastener not loosen it.
