Tremec TKO: Electrical Connectors
I'm doing the wiring harness and I'm at the Trans (Tremec TKO)
Please confirm the function of the 2 senders:
Tailshaft sender is for the Backup lights?
sender in the middle is for the neutral safety switch?
where can I get the special connectors to each of these?
Thanks Tom
PS: I left messeges with Eric Swaar...no response

Tremec TKO : Electrical connectors?
Mike,
Mustang parts...that's what I was told today...so I stopped at a
junk yard...er... ah... um... Auto Parts Recycler and snipped 'em out.
NOPE!!! not the same!
My TKO has 2 wires at the rear sender(Backup lights?) whereas the Mustang connector has 4.
and the neutral safety switch connector wasn't even close.
surely someone must know?
Tom
PS. For Sale: 2 Mustang connectors?

Backup Lights???
Tom,
Cobras don't have backup lights, and a neutral safety switch would be a pain in the butt, as you'd always have to shift to neutral to restart the car.
I'd opt for a clutch switch if you're concerned about accidentally hitting the starter in gear.
I think you're right about the reverse switch, but on my Tremec I seem to remember the other switch was closed in 1'st and open in all other gears, or something similar. I think it was used to tell the EEC-IV gear position for some reason.
Later,

Sorta going through the same thing right now. I used an ohm meter and the rear is the neutral and the center is reverse. Fortes Ford parts sells a brass plug for the neutral saftey switch if you don't intend to use it. As for the pins that extend out for the reverse lights, You can use the old style plastic angle plugs I think from a GM (gasp) oil sending unit. Get 2 of them and wire it in with some shrink tube. This is what I was told. I did'nt get a chance to do it yet.
Good luck

tko backup connector
very strange, I hope you took them from a 5 speed car, this is the same tranny they used from 94-99. i am not sure what you took out but mine only has 2 and all the tremecs and T5, i have seen in the cars only have 2 if you took it off an auto car well then it may be different. when you cut them off you should only see 2 wires, i will tell you what my cobra builder did. he took to end type connector like when you splice wires together and siliconed them together it works ok but I like yourself would like the factory look clip connector. i will cont my search , i was on the internet but people kept trying to sell me the switch not the connector, i was also told its a dealer item only you may have to by the harness. keep looking in the junk yards if they have 2 I will by it off you and pay shipping if its not outrageous. thanks

TREMEC electrics
The rear plug is the neutral safety switch; it has the wires(2") hanging off it with a plug. The other electric plug on the trans is the backup lights. You should use the neutral safety switch but it must be wired through a starter interrupt relay, not as the interrupt switch itself.
As for the connecter, don't try to find the other half of the connecter on the trans, cut that one off to expose 2" of wire, buy your favorite weather-proof connecter(you'll get both halves and four terminals to crimp or solder), and solder those terminals onto the wire leads. Attach the other side of the connecter to the chassis wire loom. Polarity does not matter, it's a continuity switch only. And use an interrupt relay, not this switch as the current carrier.

I think the above guy missed the question. we are having trouble locating the connector, i think we know the switches just finding a factor connector is the trouble, i see someone else has done the single plug with shrinktube this may be even better but you need to have the right amount of space between the connectors or it will not fit right. we need to know where we can get the connector to cut off. thanks

MkCobra,
The original question was to verify the purpose of the plugs, and the connectors. Now that we have a definite answer on the property's of the plugs, I too would love to be able to get the connector's!
I've tried the local Ford dealer and was told to buy the entire harness...ugggh!

Thanks you guys!
Cobranut: You're right...Cobras don't have back up lights!
... mine is an Excalibur and it has all kinds things that
Cobras should not have!(some of which we've eliminated!)
I like your suggestion for a clutch switch
Steve: I think I'll follow your advice on the reverse switch and
use the old style (GM) plugs. (I think I have a couple
laying around)
mkcobra: You are right! I'll bet I took these off an automatic
Mustang! The cars I checked were without Engine/trans
so I just crawled under and snipped. (without thinking).
NOTE: it's getting COLD up here!
aerospace: Thanks for reminding me to use a relay and if we
don't locate a connector soon, I may just replace the
connector.

Mkcobra,
What I did was use a couple of the female "bullet" type solderless connectors to the back up light (center) switch on the Tremec TKO.
Tom
PS. Sorry for the delayed response...seems like every minute I spend on CC is a minute that I'm not working on my Cobra.
Hope to finish the wire harness tonight and do the initial startup tommorow !

I just finished wiring my TKO a couple months ago. Had the same problem finding a connector. Wound up using the female part of a quick disconnect (blue). alittle tight going on but worked great. Hope this helps.
