Talking How often do you check your nuts?

Ok, serious question here. I love my car, but there's sometimes less of it for me to admire as it tends to revert to its component form on a regular basis. How often do you do a once-over of your nuts & bolts to make sure that no critical or decorative element is about to separate from the mother ship? Relatedly, do you recommend liberal use of blue Locktite?

And just out of curiosity, what's your best story on significant parts loss while in transit?? Inquiring minds need to know.

Talking Hmmmm--nope they're still there...

I use Locktite on everything--old farm/off-roading habit. Everything's still there. I still check everything once a month during washes, oil changes, etc.--just make it a normal thing to do.

Wink

Here's another opportunity for me to emphasize just how important it is to involve your wife in your project.

I don't use Loctite, I use either Nylocks or AN w/ safety wire. Nylocks on all misc stuff and AN bolts w/ safety wire on anything that could cause serios harm if it came adrift (suspension, etc..). I ck everything over once a year, usually in the winter when the car is idle. Any nylock that is too easy to turn gets tossed and replaced. I buy the Nylocks at Lowe's (common sizes) in bags of 20 or so and the harder to find sizes, threads,etc.. I find at Turner Ace Hardware--an EXCELLENT Dallas area hardware retailer. I have never had anything fall off or come loose.

Hi Silk,

In my opinion, very few folks maintain their car correctly.

On the JBL site there is a page:

http://www.jblmotor.com/JBLmaint.htmlBasic Maintenance

This page gives general rules of taking care of the beast.

I have found it odd that a number of prospective customers have read this page and said that they did not wish a car that required this much work.

These cars require that you give them the equal attention that they give you in performance. If you do not, then they do not perform, they bite you.

Why do you think they call them "Snakes"?
