Timing Chains vs Gear Drives

Hey guys,

I hope to finalize my engine build plans with Eric @ Competition this weekend. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of using a gear drive in lieu of a timing chain. I have been told that the gear drives rob the engine of about 10 HP, but when you are talking 500+ HP does it really matter???!!! BTW, it will either be a 460 or 514.

JMO - stick with a high quality chain.

If you want the whine, and some do, then do the gear-drive and don't worry about the HP. The gear-drive can have some nasty characteristics at higher RPM's, but a 460/514 will probably never get in that range.

Go with a high quality Coyles double roller chain.
theres are reason why thay have been used by the millions for years.
Chains have less friction and are more effecient; that's hard to believe but true.
