GRRRRR!!! Brake and Clutch pedal assembly giving me fits!!!
Ok, I had a tilton hanging brake pedal. Decided to put a Toploader in it early this year. The brake pedal hung pretty low, but I figured while I was at it, I would drop the foot box and all would be good....
Well, I dropped the footbox where I could, but the space between the framrails was positioned where it would help with my brake pedal, but not the clutch pedal and I already bought and installed the dual hanging pedal unit of the one that was already in there... #@&$!!!!!
Here's the picture of my assembly on right.
So here's the problem that I thought maybe I had solved, but....The pedal assembly hangs from the inside of the foot box, so I thought, well, I guess I can mount it on top of the footbox in the engine compartment, but there's a couple obstacles I think I can overcome, but it messes up the outside look of the footbox I just wrapped nicely with brushed aluminum....
Another option I guess would be floor mounted pedals, but that will push the brakline near the header (guess I could insulate the line). If i do this, how are the floor mounts to be mounted? Flat on the floor, or between the framerails under the footbox (below floor level), or what?

That's quite a delimma you have there Brent. It would help
if you could provide a picture of the working area. I do
like these kinds of problems dealing with fabrication. I have
an idea but I need to see a picture.

Hard to get these stupid pics to look ok, but here goes..
This is the top of the footbox, shooting from across the back of the engine.
Another angle of the top of the box.
This image gives you an idea of how low the pedals hang. Keep in mind, because the footbox is sloped at the top, the pedals when depressed tend to go back and towards the floor (not optimal!).

OK Brent I see the problem clear enough to offer a
suggestion. First I have to hook up my drawing board to
the computer so I can draw out a diagram. Be patient, I
have to turn my computer off the back on stay tuned.....

Brent,
The ERA's all have under floor pedals. I can tell you those brake lines run up the frame rail under the headers and then on the side of the headers to the fluid containers.
Bob may have a picture he can post if not I will get some of mine but I haven't found any problems with the heat....mind you I don't use rubber hose I use stainless line down to the master cylinder.

brent , this is a quickie sketch. it should get my idea across.
another question...aren't those pedals reversable
so the resevoirs are forward?

Thanks Hersh. Would you still hang everything from the underside or topside? Topside would allow minimal room to work on it. Bottom side might still hang too low?

Brent , the shape of the new box should negate the angle
that causes the peddles to go toward the floor when pushed.
This design raises the peddle folcrums level so they should
have enough room. I can't measure your slop on top of the foot box but it should be in the nieghborhood of 3".
I have seen this on other cobras and it looks like a neat setup.

Here's the way the owner of a local Johnex car handled his rearward-facing Tilton pedal set. He built an aluminum enclosure with a removable top retained by socket-head fasteners and used remote reservoirs.

Additional note:
My Midstates mounts the triple master cylinder double pedal set with a bolt-on steel bracket much like the one Hersh sketched. This is the standard Midstates setup- differs from yours in that it uses the forward-facing cylinders that hang out over the exhaust pipes.
I made my own dropped footbox and also found that the original pedal location put the clutch pedal off-center: too close to the left side edge of the dropped floorboard- but not as severely as yours. I modified the bracket and mounting a bit to move the pedal set inboard about an inch. This put the pedals much more squarely in the dropped area. Of course this crowded my gas pedal a bit so I had to fangle a little bump-out on the engine side of the footbox to put the gas pedal in a comfortable location. Lots of minor tweaking, but the result is going to be pretty comfortable for my big feet [I'm 6'2"].

Finally done with this thing. Ok, so I'm not exactly the quickest or skilled worker, but I did almost exactly as BT described above. Thank you very much for the help fellas!!
Before I head into work tomorrow I'm dropping the car off to get the brake lines sorted! Hopefully the car I have to tow it with will start....My luck it won't.
