Weber IDF carbs

Can someone pleaase confirm what the female thread size is at the fuel inlets. It looks like 1/8" BSPP to me, but I want to be sure before I order the hose fittings.

Andy

Mike I 01-15-2002 05:18 AM

Andy,

I'm not sure and I could be wrong, but I think my 48mm IDFs have got #6 AN fittings installed (3/8" pipe?). I can't verify that right now because they're at a friends house being detailed, but as soon as I can check it I'll let you know. For all I know, they may have been modified to accept those fittings. :JEKYLHYDE

Mike :MECOOL:

Maybe BT Snake can answer that question for you since I bought my setup from him. How about it Hersh? ;)

Andy FIA 01-17-2002 05:40 PM

Mike I - Did you get achance to look at your Webers, the fittings that I intend to use will be 6AN hose to 1/8th BSPP aluminium to replace the brass plugs and 3/8th stubs that come with the carbs. That is if the thread in the carb casting is 1/8th BSPP.

Sorry I didn't get right back to you

Andy,

I did some research here at work (I work for an aircraft manufacturer) with an engineer buddy of mine and what I found out is that 1/8" NPT (similar to BSPP?) pipe thread is 27 threads per inch, whereas 1/4 & 3/8 are both 18 tpi. I haven't had a chance yet to go look at what I have on my IDFs, but I believe I do have the fine thread (27 tpi) 1/8" NPT fuel inlets as you have indicated. I will check it out today and let you know for sure.

Mike :MECOOL:

BTW Andy, I'll expect to see some pictures of your car and induction system....:3DSMILE:

The photo I've attached really doesn't help much, but it may give you some idea of what you need to buy.

Mike I 01-19-2002 05:06 AM

Andy,

I checked the fuel inlets yesterday and they are definitely 1/8" NPT threads. ;)

What engine is in your car? I'd be curious to know the specs of your IDFs, i.e. chokes, air correctors, e-tubes, jets etc...

Sorry Mike,
I just now saw this thread. I see that you already got the correct answer.
I want a picture of that unit when it's done please. :3DSMILE:

Hersh:)

Mike I 01-21-2002 03:57 AM

Hi Hersh!

I've been holding off on installing the system because my car has been running too darn good with the Holley to mess with it. I'm getting to the point now that I need to take a perfectly operating, simple, fuel efficient, low maintenance induction system and replace it with a hard starting, raw fuel belching, difficult to tune, but oh so pretty Weber setup.....what am I thinking?? :JEKYLHYDE

I think I already mentioned to you (maybe not) that I'm swapping the carbs over to an Inglese manifold that I had prior to buying your setup and I've had to buy some additional linkage pieces to make it all work. I'm also rerouting my fuel delivery system and changing over the ignition system (why am I doing this, it works okay as it is!! )..... Anyway, I'm probably going to start the mods in a few weeks, I'll let you know how it turns out....

How's your 40 coming along??? Post some pix!!!

Mike :MECOOL:

BTW, do you still have that hardtop??

Cal Metal 01-21-2002 07:22 AM

Andy:

Let me know what kind of success you have with the F16 Emulsion tubes.

Aloys 01-21-2002 08:13 AM

Andy,
that`s a good looking piece of metal. Itīs kind of hard to get the good adresses over here, therefore my question: can you name a dealer or two and a justabout price for a whole unit?

Cal - My friend has just changed from F11 to F16 emulsion tubes on his 289 following some head porting work. I figured that my engine was fairly similar so it would give me a good start for the first dyno run.

Are any of you Weber guys using rod linkage for the throttle? I am hoping to adapt my present set up from the Holley, by moving the bellcrank along the crossover rod so that the carb pull rod can run down the centre of the carbs and pick up on the Inglese bell crank. I prefer rod linkage overall and have had success with multi DCNF's on other cars. (present set up in photo)

Aloys - I purchased the new intake and Inglese linkage from a dealer in the UK who had bought it from Inglese and never used it. The carbs came from a dealer of Ferrari Dino parts in Essex, he just happened to have three that he'd bought in for a Lancia Stratos, but dosen't normaly stock them.
As far as I am aware Weber intakes and linkages for American V8's are not normaly stocked by any dealers in the UK, but Weber IDF's are available.
I will try and find you a list of dealers and post later.

Andy:

I will try and post a linkage set up that you might want to consider. It is used on GT-350's. I need to charge up the digital camera.

renaissance man 01-22-2002 07:29 AM

What is the deck clearance to the hood that is needed for a set of these on a 289 or equiv?

Cal Metal 01-22-2002 07:37 AM

Dave:

I think much of that depends on the Replica in question. I know that Unique's cars can accept the Weber 48 IDA with either the 289 or the 351W. Remember that the IDF like Andy's are about 1 inch shorter which helps in that department. I know, too, that some of the manufacturer's cars have hood clearance problems when using the IDA with the 351.

Andy FIA 01-22-2002 12:10 PM

Cal - Did you have any luck with the linkage set up?

Andy

Larry Hampton 07-29-2004 11:23 AM

Does anyone make a 351w intake for the 48 IDF carbs? I know someone that's looking for one.

Larry
