Best Burr's For Cutting Aluminum ?
There are many carbided burr's for sale, single and dual cut, etc.
$15 to $10,000. ;) What type are made for cutting aluminum ? My use is for cutting rough cutting aluminum engine parts before sanding and polishing. |
Wide spaced 8 flute works best. Lube (Wax, grease, anti-seize, Mold release) all work pretty well and keep the burr from loading.
ALUMA BURRS |
That's great. Wish they posted prices.

I know you get what you pay for but man, their expensive.
But if used properly, it should last a long time vs a cheap one. |
double cut may load up, try the single first.
probably McMaster-Carr may have better prices on them. |
Which type, single or dual, are better for aluminum ?
|
the dual will just load up i would use the single.
if your using it and aluminum gets welded to the tool, keep some steel handy to run the burr in, it will pull the aluminum out of the cutter. a handy cutting fluid for aluminum is Isopropyl Alcohol |
Ok, great. Thanks for the tips too.
To keep cost down, how about this and others on Amazon, ebout etc ? https://www.amazon.com/YUFU-10-Carbi...ide+burr&psc=1 |
they are double cut and look like real doo doo, spend the extra at mcmaster.
they will be worth it |
|
Ok, won't go the cheap route. ;)
I like your selection and these. https://www.mcmaster.com/#carbide-burs/=1a46ggo |
just food for thought, if your using a hand held device with a carbide burr they will not be very controllable, for rough material removal they are great, for more controlled
hand working a mounted stone will give a better result, i prefer the ball type. |
That's why I want a burr for aluminum. Some shaping, some smoothing before using stones, sanding rolls etc then buff polishing. Water pump, timing cover etc.
I'm concerded about chasing pit holes, as I can seen many on the surface. %/ |
