Discs runnout
The front brakes system kept me busy for few days now and just cannnot fix the bugs yet. I have 12 inches corvette discs adapted to MG spindle/hubs for wire wheels. I just changed the hubs with new ones and put in new bearings. After many attempts with the shims I managed on the driver side a just right freefeeling spinning hub/disc with only .003 inches of runnout...so none sporadic pads/discs contacts.
The other side gives me trouble as I cannot get better than .008 runnout..and there the disc is contacting the pads enough to stop the freespinning disc...
The car won't be running before may (snow invaded) and its time now to figure out what to do. Could it be that type of runnout shouldn't be a worry and leave it? Can I have only that disc shaved or both need to be done? What about something I remember reading to always have a disc shaved both sides at the time...would that be standard practice just about any garage can do?
thank you.
