Running Hot Question

I have seen many posts regarding engines that run hot or run hot at certain times. I was thinking about this and was wondering if my theory is valid:

I do not have a heater hooked up soooooo....

What if I ran one heater line to a small oil cooler type unit and returned it back through the other heater line????? Maybe with a little fan on it or running a hose from the vent intakes to the front of it.

Would this add any significant cooling? Am I nuts?....well....don't answer that!

Whadddaya think?

Sure it would work....especially if you had a really BIG heater core....

I don't know what your specifics are as far as engine state of modification or radiator size or anything like that, BUT, the proper way to deal with this issue is to have a radiator that is big enough and properly installed (engineered) to do the job.

As stated by ERA535 having the proper radiator to start out is essential. Back that up with sufficient fan power and a shroud and you should be able to drive anywhere in any weather.
At speed the fans aren't as important but directed airflow is. In traffic or at low speed the fan and shroud are essential to provide enough airflow over the core so it can do it's job.
One of the most overlooked items when installing a new engine is putting in a new radiator. For what motors cost in these cars isn't it worth a couple hundred bucks to make sure your not going to cook it the first time you drive on a hot day?
To me not replacing a radiator when putting in a new motor is like using generic grocery store oil during the engine break in period.
Heat and friction are the engines biggest enemies, why not give your engine the best chance at a long troublefree life.

I have to agree with you guys and with my current heating problems I am in the market for a new aluminum radiator.

I did not necessarily mean for my application but I was just thinking about it the other day and wondered if it would work.

In theory, any little bit of cooling you add will help cool the engine down. But it's a band aid, not a fix. And it might cost you more to put in a bigger heater that you don't need rather than a bigger radiator and/or fan that you do need.

(I could rag on you about your cooling issues, like you ragged on me about my radio static; but I won't - this time.)
