Cockpit Cover
When going out to a diner or someplace where I don't want the "squirrels" screwing around with the inside of the car I use a Miata cockpit cover available from California Car Covers, among others.
About 60 bucks from http://www.calcarcover.com/

Roscoe, The cover looks great. Does it snap into place or do you just place it over the cockpit? Did you have to make any modifications?

dgcomps: Look at the picture carefully...notice the straps?
This is exactly what I have been looking for, more than anything, in case some great big bird flies over and drops a bomb, I bet a few of you guys can relate to that one......!
My interior is going to be very nice, and I want it to stay that way. Birds beware!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I decided against a tonneau cover, because of all the ugly snaps needed...just thought it would be too much
dgcomps,
The cover goes under the hood in the front. The rear has a tab that you close the trunk on. Then there are 4 nylon straps with very soft bendable clamps that hook into each fenderwall. Works pretty good and serves the purpose of keeping prying eyes out of the cockpit while your trying to eat your breakfast in a diner.
I lightened up the pic so you could see, at least, the front strap.
Good looking out. Do you have a part number?
Roscoe;
Looks interesting, I was thinking of getting a Toneu cover made for my ride. As you know I have (2) roll bars. Is there enough room under the Miata cover to go over both bars. Your reply will probably make my decision easier. By the way are your going to try to come out this June for DVSF II?
pnjsnak,
I believe you will have enough room if the roll bars are not too high. The A&C roll bar height is just about right.
Don't think I'll be able to come out in June.
Tonneau cover ???
My ERA cobra has the studs in the car body for a tonneau cover. Other than the cost, are there disadvantages to covering the cockpit with a tonneau cover? Will the underside of a tonneau cover scratch the car body? I would appreciate hearing any user expereince, thanks.
I've driven my car with the tonneau in place over the passenger side with no problems. If the fit is correct it doesn't flap around.
Installation of Tonneau cover ???
I always drove sports car with a tonneau cover; it is usefull when it rains and when you have no passenger in the right seat;it is even more interesting when you leave the car in an outdoor parking. It does not scratch usually. Unfortunately, my Cobra which I own for now more than seven years had no such device. Last week, I bought a tonneau Cover made for 427 from Robbins Auto Top .(California) for approximately 200 dollars. It came with the hardware (I already had the mounting metallic posts (pins) on my Cobra). Room is provided for the steering wheel but I shall have to modify it to accomodate it to my roll bar. Could somebody give me some advice to install the hardware on the vinyl cover? I think this will be a very tight fitting. Do I need special tools? No instruction was included with the cover and hardware. Thanks
