390 Engine

Any feedback on the 390 as the engine of choice?

Great availability (NOS blocks still fairly common), relatively cheap, makes good power, and visually (at least from the top of the engine bay) nearly identical to the 427.

Having said that, so are 428's. IMHO, unless you have access to a sound 390 at a bargain price, why not just go with a 428? They were, after all, fitted to some of the originals.

I am looking at various cobra's for sale and one has a 390.
I was leaning towards a 351-little lighter, plenty of upgradeability.

Any drawbacks to the 390-even resale value vs. the other engines?

I had a 390 in a '67 Mustang and it definitely has plenty of power
