Unhappy Painting stripes

Getting close to painting now and although I've painted many cars in the past with two pack acrylic paint (not base coat and clear) I've never done stripes. I'm thinking of a similar paint job to the blue beasty shown on this site's opening page but with siver stripes. I would expect to mask up and paint on the stripes after completing the car but this will leave a raised surface.. so how is that handled? perhaps a coat of clear laquer over everything? or do you just live with it?

Any tips most welcome..thanks

Mike;
It's easy to paint stripes!! You just print out the picture of the car on the banner, give it to your painter, and he'll do it any way he damn-well pleases! That's how I got mine.

PS Theoretically, the clear coat blends in the color and stripe hard-line, but that didn't work, either.

Mike,

Are you still planning on using the older system or the BC/CC type system.

It all depends on waht system you are using.

DV 300 Cobras is NOT enough!

OK thanks folks...sounds like it's a couple of coats of clear and see what happens. Relying on a paint shop is fine if you can have one that's trustworthy but there is so much more fun doing it youself and with water based paints and HVLP guns giving much less spray the process has become safer and easier! Of course lots of compounding with a power polisher is a must and hides mistakes.
