If you want an original look, find one from a 66 VW bug--it is the same as the oe Cobra, and the same as many of the replica companies use. Easy to find, and parts are still available. It's really just a tube with the t/s switch mounted to it and a couple of bearings! Mine has the stalk mounted dimmer, which I use for my horn button. If you want tilt, I would give a call to IDIDIT, which makes a very nice GM style clumn at a reasonable price. Check FLAMING RIVER as well, as they are in the column business, and have a variety of custom columns at good prices. Their quality is top notch as well....I use their quick ratio steering box in my GT350.

dcapo;
I used an IDIDIT non-tilt column in my Shell Valley, and it looks and works great. I tried to use a tilt column, but there was not enough room between the steering wheel and the grocery basket (!). The quality of the IDIDIT was impeccable, and they were great to work with.

Dcapo...
Uhhh,
We make the custom columns for CR's. All new bearings, etc.
Elimination of the "muffler" pipe extension, full tilt, and not only is it a direct bolt in, the harness will plug right in!
If you want we can also supply the proper Flaming River shaft extension and both U-joints, which eliminate all slop and play!
If you don't like it, then we simply refund 100% plus shipping!
Trust me on this one... You will love it!
We even make one with the key on the column or we shave the column so you can put a key on the dash.
If you want one, just add it to your fax tomorrow!
Ohh, and these are totally collapsible in case of collision!
DV -- 300 Cobras are (or is it "is" ?) NOT enough! Have you registered yet?

dcapo,
Go with DV's column. I'm saving up my pennies now to replace my Chevette column with one of DV's.
My Chevette column is a tilt unit and does work fine, a little wobbly, burned out the starter position in the key switch, was able to pull the key out with the ignition on ... so the column is a fine, fully functional GM product

Don't waste your time or money on a Chevette column. I did, and I can't wait to get it replaced. It has the column mounted ignition switch, the combo wiper/turn signal/ cruise set-up and it was blue! It's got interlock and safety switch B.S. you don't want to get into and, it didn't match the wiring kit I got. I reccomend the Ididit column or DV's. Unless you've got your heart set on a Chevette column. In that case, I've got a beauty I can ship ASAP.
