Chad Axtel and I spoke briefly as a good friend of mine commissioned him to build his Cobra. I toured his shop, and got to see 2 cars in production. Chad is a very detailed guy and knows exactly what he's doing. The chassis construction is outstanding as is his knowledge of chassis building. My friends particular cobras was being outfit with a 427 side oiler pushing 630 HP. Chad was very confident that the chassis design, engine mounting, transmission, and rear-end design was and is capable of handing this kind of power. He uses an inboard disc break system housed to a Ford 9" center section, with independent rear control arms for IDRS. The chassis is 4" round tubing, and is indeed well thought out. Now, I have not seen one of his cars side by side with the likes of say; BackDraft, Superformance, or FFR, but I could tell that the body design and lines were better than a lot of the other replicas out there.
IMHO he builds an elite performance car, for the client looking for a car that delicately blurs the lines between "original engineering" and "welcome to 2012". RG |
