tires for tow vehicle
Hi. I tow the SPF with a 3/4 ton Suburban. It has 245/75/16 E load rated Firestone Steeltex tires. The fronts are 6 years old and are still fine. The rears I replaced a year ago. The new rears are cracking around the bead. Does anyone know what this means? The last set of the same tires didn't do this. I am religious about tire pressures (80 psi) when towing, and the trailer tounge weight is right at 1000 pounds, which is about 13 percent of the trailer weight. I do run equalizers on the hitch. Any suggestions on what is happening? Any suggestions for a replacement tire that can handle the load?
