Dwight, my car is painted 1999 Mustang Chrome yellow with gloss black stripes. I just had the body shop paint the wheel centers when he painted the rest of the car.

Peter, thanks. (at least I think you were talking to me)
No, I don't have any plans to go to Siggraph this year. To many other things to do.

Dave,
Yeah that was for you. We were talking about 3D animation last year. Are you still animating?

Trying too. More modeling than "animating". I started using Cinema 4D XL--GREAT program. I was using Lightwave, and to some extent, Animation Master, but 4D XL is much better.
I have so many other chores though that I hardly ever get time to do it anymore. If you have kids you'll understand.
I'd like to get back to it as soon as I can so I don't start forgetting things. They say the memory is the first thing to go.

PS Engineering once advised me to use auto paint if I decided not to powdercoat but wanted to change wheel color. Most regular paints will break down much quicker flaking or fading from the sun. I did not paint my wheels but I may do it next season.

Thumbs up

I'd stick with the Gaay as most have said. I think painting them yellow would hose up the lines of the car.

I like the contrast of the brightly polished knock-offs over a black background. I also think that black and yellow go extremely well together and is the MOST visable color combination. I do like the look of fully polished wheels, but black would be my first choice. I am even thinking of having my rollbar done in black powdercoat. The contrast is everything!

dave,
I have a 18 month old so I know what you're talking about...
Some of the guys here use 4d and love it.

I started as a modeler, just like car models only in 3d!

Good luck.

if you guys would accept a UK opinion (and that is by no means a given), neutral coloured wheels are more "tasteful". Hmm. Not sure I described that too well. Wheels are all round, no matter what the pattern. Everyones' "eye" is trained to accept round wheels througn experience. Body coloured wheels attract the eye "too much" - drawing attention to the fact that they are round, which we knew already.
The "norm" is for wheels to be somehow silver or neutral coloured, anything else really does attract the eye, and having done so, will polarise opinion into "love it" or "loathe it".
Sooo - I guess it depends on whether you are a "like my car or don't I don't care" kind of person or not.

Did that make any kind of sense? I read it back and I am still not sure. Anyway - take a look at my gallery to see what I mean. "English" style - pretty low key.

I can see Wilfs point, one does tend to focus immediately on the wheels but I like the look. I especially like your choice of Chrome Yellow. Mine is Viper Blue with white stripes but yellow or black were my other possibile choices (I saw a yellow cobra here in Tulsa last month with yellow and silver that looked really good too). My neighbor has an orig Cobra and is quick to tell me that all Cobras should be one of the orig basic colors...I say live and let live, wanna race?

Clois - did you get your carb stumble sorted? And how great it must be to live next door to a REAL cobra. Does he let you pop in and take measurements?
Most of the real (sorry - original) cars in the Uk are owned by fairly "uptight" characters - theres a 289 in the next village to ours, the guy won't even talk to me in the pub. Shame. Had to blow him off last weekend when I came across him on the road.

Peter,
It's an awesome program. It beats the others hands down.

I think if you like the wheels the same color as the body, go for it. No one has ever told me they didn't like them. In fact, people think it's a nice touch, especially if you do it tastefully with other things too. In my car the fire extinguisher is also body color, and so are the engine, and shifter knob. Offset with a good amount of chrome and black, it really looks nice. (that's what I'm told anyway). If you like it...do it. One things for sure, it'll set your car apart from the sea of other cars with grey or natural wheels.

My $.02

Dave
