Letter to Milodon:
Customer Service
Milodon Inc.
20716 Plummer Street
Chatsworth, CA 91311
Dear Sir:
I am writing this letter to inform you how disappointed I am with Milodon and their customer service department.
Over the past several years I built a replica Shelby Cobra. The engine I am using is a 1985 Ford 351 Windsor. As part of this build I chose Milodon for my road race pan, a 160 thermostat and water pump. I ordered these items from PAW in California. My car has been on the road for about 18 months and I have approximately 10,000 miles on it.
Since the first day on the road I found the engine running a bit on the hot side. While I never overheated, the engine temperature would creep up while in traffic on a hot day or idling for an extended period of time. I accepted this fact as just part of the engine and car.
About six weeks ago I found the engine running very hot to the point I had to address the issue. The first items I pulled off were the water pump and thermostat. Both appeared to be in good working order and were re-assembled on the engine. I ran several tests for a blown head gasket but all proved negative. I spoke with Tom in tech support at Milodon and he suggested it could be an air pocket. I pulled the heads and everything checked out fine. After all this I still had the same problem. I finally changed the pump and installed an Edelbrock Victor Series pump and my engine never ran better.
I spoke with Tom today and asked him to tell me which pump I had, based on the numbers on the shaft. To my surprise Tom informed me that I had a pump for a 351C motor, model 16235. I checked my invoice from PAW and it reflects the proper pump, model 16232. I also recall that when I received the pump I checked the box to verify that it was the correct one.
Tom informed me today that it was probably the fault of PAW because they always repackage parts. I spoke with PAW and they tell me that it does not work that way and Milodon is at fault.
All I know is that it cost me several hundred dollars to find out that the Milodon pump I received was packaged wrong. The answer I received from Tom at Milodon is unacceptable! At the very least I would expect Milodon to service their customers, as any business would do, and replace the pump with the proper one. PAW did not make the pump, Milodon did and you should handle the problem properly.
Please contact me at the above numbers during business hours and let me know what Milodon will, or will not, do to rectify this situation.
Thank you for your assistance and anticipated prompt attention.
Yours cordially,
