Default Oil Thermostat

This ol Montana boy needs some help. I would like to install a oil thermostat on the car but I would like to know what the 4 ports are for. The way I see it is #1 inlet, #2 outlet to cooler, #3 bypass outlet #4 I don't have a clue. Any web site that I go to only shows the thermostat and not the recommended routing.
This is how I have my oil system plumbed now.

1 Engine to Dual Oil Filters.
2 Filters to Oil Cooler
3 Oil cooler to Check Valve to Accusump
4 Accusump back to Engine

I would like to install the Thermostat right after the filters and the bypass would tee back into the system prior to the Accusump but after the Check Valve.

Who can help me out on this.

The three biggest lies in Montana are

1. I won this buckle at a Rodeo
2. My pickup is paid for
3 Honest I was just trying to help the sheep over the fence.

If yours is like mine:
1 Inlet from motor (or dual filters)
2 Outlet to cooler
3 Inlet from cooler
4 Outlet to motor--not to filters!
It would help to know what brand thermostat you have, as it may have a different labeling system than mine--mine is marked I1,I2
O1 and O2.
You should end up with:
motor to oil filters
oil filters to thermostat
thermostat to cooler
cooler to thermostat
thermostat to motor (Again, NOT to the oil filters!)

Thanks for the information, it all makes sense now. I haven't bought the thermostat yet, I was just trying to find out how I was going to plumb it.

Rosco

I had looked at your photo's before but got lost as to what came from where but thanks any way.

Default more questions

Do these thermostats restrict oil flow in bypass mode? Are any ajustable for temp. of bypass? Any favorite brands? Thanks
