Lightbulb driving shoes

If you have big feet and would like driving shoes for every day as well as events, a great tip: go buy wrestling shoes--same design basically with no huge logo and HALF the cost. Now if I could only get a modified gas petal bent to suit my monster feet...

I suppose you could amputate some or all of the toes on your right foot. I would think that as long as you have toes on your left foot, that would be sufficient to keep your balance while walking/standing!.

Reminds me of a quote from Richard Petty I heard a long time ago.

He always wore cowboy boots to drive. Then one day somebody finally talked him to wearing "driveing shoes".

He was like, "WOW, these things are great, I should been wearing these years ago."

Just how monster sized are we talking here? My father and i are in the process of building an ERA FIA. In the rare occasion in the future that he lets me drive it, i don't want my feet to be too large. I wear a size 16 now, and I'm not sure if they are done getting bigger yet........ If they don't fit i guess i just have to chop off a couple toes or so.

Not to depress you, but size 12, sometimes 13. The gas petal can be modified, not a big issue. Years ago had a Lotus Europa and had to drive the thing barefoot.

Size 16? Man, if you have EEEEs or something, you may have to ride with your right foot in the passenger's footwell.

Seriously, with dogs that big, you will likely find that a shoe with no protruding sole, like a driving shoe, is an absolute necessity. Otherwise, it's too easy to catch your left foot on the underside of the brake pedal when you're letting the clutch out. Causes all sorts of angst if you're trying to work the brakes in short order.

Good luck.

The wrestling shoe is a good idea cost-wise. Many autocrossers use them.

I've got big fat feet (13eee) in a rather close foot box. Topsiders work, but for long drives where some heel support makes it more comfortable--I use my Pilotes--which you can actually walk in. Simpsons for serious stuff.

For street driving I have some special docksider-like shoes. A bit taller so you can heel-toe, but same idea. You can also go with 'river socks'. These things are like wrestling shoes, but much cheaper and have better grip.

Keep in mind that race shoes aren't all that expensive.

I use nike aqua socks. They work even better than wrestling shoes. Great feel and grip.

Talking good news/bad news

glenn,
bad news- for safety you'll need special shoes to drive it.

good news - you'll make up the cost in not needing to buy snow
shoes.

sure hope you aren't sensitive about it.my son is going in the same direction as you in shoe size.

Guys with really big dogs might want to think about pedal spacing. Even in the limited area of the footbox, a half inch can make a big difference. Original "spoon" type gas pedal helps too.

On the up side, heel toe braking should be a snap. Down side is you will have to do it all the time!

Cheers, Pete C

It's Hawaii,,,everyone drives with da "rubbah shlippas" here,,,,,,

But not in MY Cobra! When I first got it, I got so fouled up with the brake clutch and throttle wearing my flip flops I thought my feet were tied!
