Question Big Block 460 help

Does anyone have a 460 with an MSD distributor #8577? If you do can you please measure from the engine block to the top of the cap. I am building a 514 and I have MSD # 8580 and it stand too tall. It will interfere (unless spaced 1.5") with my oval air cleaner. I have a blue thunder intake, which sits lower than the Edelbrock intake.

Your help is appreciated!

are you planning to put a large hood scoop on your car?

i was going to use just about the identical set up your talking about excpt for the cubic inch displacement but have sence decided to go with a fe for the following. now dont get excided it may well work with the kit your going to use, im going with the unique motorcars 427.
1. the width of the 385 series and the way the exaust works requires major modification to the unique motorcars footbox making it almost impossible to put the 3 pedals in for standard.
it also will create extra heat in the footbox.
2. the #7 and #8 spark plugs are unaccessable from the engine compartment, have to create access panels in footbox.
3. even with hoodscoop there is amost no ground clearance
4. stearing linkage has to be relocated and modified to work

I dont have the measurements for that distributor but can get them tomorrow for you

9 5/8 inches to the highest sitting spark plug wire (front left side). I had to modify my large oval air cleaner to move it rearward - filled the original hole and made a new one. (See my pics in the Gallery).

Hopeful,
If you switch to a Edelbrock Preformer RPM intake you will not have any clearance problems.

Guys, thanks for responding. I think I have figured out what I am going to do. Add a spacer between the manifold and carb.

--Vision, I will be keeping the stock hood scoop that came with the Superformance. They did increase the heigth Some Serial numbers before mine.

--Naja, Moving the hole in the air cleaner is a little beyond my skills. You have a really nice car. Ilike the custom valve covers and the Fuel Injection.

--Millennium, I think I will be adding a spacer to my Blue Thunder intake to raise it to the same heigth as you Edelbrock manifold. Don't want to be replacing my manifold this soon.
