New Weber 48 IDAs
Just got off the phone with Mike at Pierce Manifolds. Yes the new 48 IDAs are out; they will retail for $589.00 at Pierce and they should be arriving in about two weeks. He said the only difference he new of at this time is that they use bolts instead of studs and nuts on the top. He also said he thinks the float is still brass!
Pierce's toll free number: 1-800-874-3728
WWW address: http://www.piercemanifolds.com/
Man, my two sets of IDAs just went down in value!!!

I have no relationship with Pierce, other than a customer who loves the looks of Weber 48 IDAs

If you have NOS Webers, the values will stay pretty even, I would bet, as original owners will want those as opposed to anything that is currently reproduced. If you have any doubts about that, go to a Corvette NCRS meet sometime and discuss reproduction vis a vis NOS or OEM parts.
Additionally, this price is for the carbs, only. Throw in an intake, linkage, regulator, lines and you are pushing mid $3,000's to upper range. If the new carbs, come with the jetting the old ones used, a jetting change is also inevitable.
Thorin:
Do you know what e tubes these things come with? If they are anything but F7's another $200 goes into the mix.

Weber IDAs
Cal,
I don't think Mike is too sure what will be coming in the new Webs. He didn't seem like he wanted to talk about them - I may be wrong, but I am guessing he will find out what comes in them when he gets the first one.

Dave:
In talking with Roger it seems as though the majority of their work is pretty non V-8. They do a ton of work on the Webs for smaller European cars, particularly Fiat. This may be outside noise to them, in the final analysis. Keep us posted.

From Pierce ( I sent an email requesting information )
$589/carb includes the carb and setup as follows
37 mm chokes
4.5 aux. venturi
135 main jet
F7 Emulsion tube
120 air corrector
70 F10 idle jet
50 pump jet
000 (closed exhaust valve)
2.0 needle and seat
You will be spending money...Personally the best way to compare these is to the IDF's....they cost over $4000 setup...don't plan on these things coming down anytime soon..
I was also told that this was the first run and they are almost all sold.
Matt

Thanks, Matt. The air corrector at 120 is a non starter. The exhaust valve should be a 55. The main is too lean. Did they say what the idle holder would be? This is pretty much how the factory set them up twenty years ago. It will cost $250.00 to get them up to snuff.

Weber Manifolds
Does anyone know of available weber manifolds for a 351W application? So far I only know of inglese.
Thanks Joe
Cal, can you guesstimate some prices on parts listed by Matt that would likly have to be changed. Ballpark on linkage prices?
Thanks
Cal you beat me to the post, is that $250 per?

Joe:
I have a brand new 351W manifold that I purchased from Enzo some time ago. Let me know if you are interested. I have no need for it.
As far as the updates, here are the figures. This is total and NOT per carb. I don't know if the idle holder would need to be changed. I would think not.
Exhaust: $63.00
Main Jets: $60.00
Air Corr: $60.00
G & D Needle/Seat: $55.00
If you want to move to the larger chokes they run $240.00.

I didn't get an answer on the idle holder Cal but I would bet on a 120 since Tim has been having trouble getting anything but.
The long and short of it is you aren't going to get IDF's for under $4000 so don't bet you will get IDA's for under $4000..
Manifold $650 from Blue Thunder
Linkage and Fuel line was $1000 from Pierce installed
So on top of the carbs you can figure on another $2000 for the other stuff you need....and I think Cal will agree that just gets you close...its no guarantee that you won't need to change jets again at $60/set of jets.

I have a 351W H/M intake for the IDA weber. I also called Mike about the NEW IDA carbs.I wanted to try FI and enter into the 21th century. I found that TWM makes throttle bodies to fit my manifold so I can go EFI or put my carbs back on.It looks like my cost for the EFI set up will be in the $3500 range. The big cost is the fuel computer or a engine control unit which can be used on other engines. What do you think of this retro?I love the look of stacks.

Based on watching Weber posts for going on three years, I believe the EFI will end up being easier to set up and maintain, but no matter how hard you try, they just do not look just like or sound anything like Webs.
Talk with Cal Metal or Enzo at the Finishline forum (under manufacturers ...) - they are the experts on Webs.

Nothing against EFI .... but being an old fashioned guy I decided to upgrade to 48IDAs. The Weber system is on order so I know what I will have to do during the wintertime ! I'm counting on you fellows - I know there are some real experts out there (Cal, I read all your comments on Webs !) I'm just wondering how the IDAs will sound and perform !

Cal Metal - HELP!
Cal,
With a set of Webs I purchased, the seller gave me two, what I beleive to be, K&N filter units. These are made up of an aluminum top and base that sandwiches a 17" long, 5 1/2" wide and 1 1/2" tall K&N filter in between. The bottom unit attaches to the top of two of the 48s; I believe you take off the stacks and the mesh screens from two inline carbs and the base bolts into the stack and screen bolt holes. The filter unit sits on the base and is held in place by the top aluminum cover and one flush fitting hex bolt. There is another identical unit that fits on the other two carbs.
I am looking for some gaskets to go between the bottom piece and the top of the Webs. And I have no idea how old the filter units are; so, I would like to replace them. By the way, they are the wash and re- oil type element.
I looked through http://www.knfilters.com/default.htm and couldn't find anything close. I also looked at Pierce and Ingelese and came up empty. Got any suggestions?
I was going to e-mail this question to you, but since the 48s are coming back into production, your answer will be beneficial to others. I believe these filters will be better than the individual screen filters; Yes No?
Any problems with this type of filter?
Thanks for your help.
Dave Lowell
