Default thunderbird supercoupe irs

I am considering switching out my 9 inch rear end wirh an 8.8
supercoupe irs. I am running a supercharged 289, 375 horse,
425 lbs torque. Will the irs handle the torque. How have the 8.8
irs units held up in cobras. Thanks for your input. Jay.

They handle it fine. Just don't put on some drag slicks and try and launch the car at 7000rpm. SPF puts them in their cars, and there are a bunch of SPF's with lots more torque and no diff problems. But why switch anyway?

I up-graded to an Auburn Pro carrier in my 8.8 and have had no worries.

3 reasons for the switch:
#1. I need a winter project.
#2. I auto cross the car & believe the irs will perform better.
#3. I found a complete irs for $500 dollars & should be able
to sell the 9 inch disc. with posi for more.

I have never seen an LAE or B&B with IRS. is it supposed to be a drop in assembly? The cost of modifying the frame to accept: A-arms out back, hang the center section, and everything else will be a huge pain, but you said you needed a project. What did you get with the "complete irs for $500"

I'm checking to make sure the irs hub to hub length is the same as the 9 inch. To shorten or lengthen the irs would be spendy.
The irs I've looked at is a 1992, 327 gears with posi. The unit is
100 percent complete. I actually think the install wil be easy. A wire feed welder & some custom brackets. I will keep you posted. Jay
