Cling on/vinyl rock guards??
Do they exist? It seems that if static cling on numbers and logos exist, that a cling on rock guard set would also work...?

I asked about those on here a while ago. never got a response. It seems like a logical idea. Take em off for shows, throw em on to cruise.

I thought there was a thread about this about two months ago, but I haven't found it yet.

JC Whitney sells a rock guard that can be custom cut to fit. It's a heavy plastic and works great. You get 10' of the stuff for $19.99 plus s/h.
If you can't find it on their catalog, email me and I'll look up the part number.

Thanks guys!
I would recommend using Speed Shine ( www.griotsgarage.com) or a similar product first, to "clear" (heh heh) the way for a good adhesion without scratching the kewl paint job !

checked into it...
JC Whitney does not have the product...
And the local sign companies have only 3 mil stuff...
And the body shop wants $90 for a small square of the 3M product...?
Is this what this stuff costs? Seems a bit much for a piece of plastic...?

I have black vinyl spats on mine. Has a top snap to snap onto one of the bayonets and a snap for down at the bottom. Folds one edge into tire well where there is velcro. Looks good, easy off and on for cleaning, etc. I can try to find out where the builder got them if anyone is interested. I believe my picture in my gallery has them on.

rock guard
I was just up at ERA and they had a can of 3m "rocker panel guard" spray. It's clear and gives and orange peel finish. It may be for you, maybe not. But it felt soft enough to absorb some rocks.
Hope that helps.

Clear stone guards
Try this web site:
www.invinca-shield.com
click on automobiles, then cobra - Clear rear stone guards are $35 precut.
Eastwood used to sell Scotchcal in 6 ft x 4" strips for about $30, but I didn't see it in their latest catalog. You may try calling them at 1-800-345-1178. Their old part number was 52082.

Scotchcal (3M) is extremely expensive. A 6" x 70" piece is about $55. Plus, like a 2x4, it is actuall about 5-1/2" x 64". It works out to about $20 per square foot!

A friend of mine who owns a sign company ordered me a sheet of clear static-cling type. It is about 3' x 5'. When I asked how much he said forget about it. He said the shipping cost him as much as the film. So I don''t know how much it cost but it couldn't be that much. The stuff works great. Cut it to shape and use it again and again. I would suggest to others to go to sign companies and get it from them.

OK... try www.jcwhitney.com]JC Whitney[/url]
Part # 14RQ5498N
$19.99 plus S/H
I would not want any metal that needs to be rivetted or screwed to the fender.

okiesnake?
I found some of that stuff, but I thought maybe it was too thin to stop rocks...have you actually been using it for long? And has it totally kept your fender from chips?
My paint is going to be too nice to stick any adhesive type stuff on it...I also want to be able to remove it for car shows, etc...and I dont want any rivets or such either

I've had them on the car for about two months. They seem to be doing the job. However, I have no plans on taking them off. I am sure it will peel off if I tried. I only covered the bottom 10".

Next time I'll try the JC Whitney Stuff. It is a bit thinner (3.56 vs 6 mils), but is also about one tenth the cost per square foot.

3M Scotchcal is GREAT.. but it costs a couple of dollars. It is not very adhesive. You spray soapy water on the surface, stick them on, then squeagy the air bubbles out with a credit card wrapped in T-shirt cloth. They can be peeled off without hurting the paint, but that will destroy the clear film. They do prevent stone chips, they are almost invisible if applied right. So they might cost you $100, but what does repainting the leading edge of the rear fenders cost? I have only used the 3M stuff, anything from JC Whitney is crap.
