Question Leaking already???

Well, after about 3 miles of driving around the neighborhood(no plates yet ), I put backed into the garage and AHHHHHHH, red transmission fluid all over the bottom of the car and leaking onto the garage floor. YIKES

T-5, brand new. I gotta get under there and see where it's leaking from. Any thoughts of where or why this is happening?

Did you overfill it? Are the fill and drain plugs still there? It ought to be pouring out while just sitting there if it is leaking that bad after 3 miles.

Would it leak out of the speedometer cable hole?. I saw that it had come out.

Well, it's a hole that passes into the inside of the case, where the fluid normally remains. YES How did the cable come out, did you not put the retainer clip and screw in there?

Automatic transmission oil should not be used in a t-5 manual gearbox, it will 'burn' the gears & the gearbox will fail prematully.

please advise!!!

Don't know about T-5's other than they break by the time you make any HP. The tremecs like ATF, preferrable REDLINE C+ for chyrsler auto trannys.

Yes T5's do use automatic trans fluid. The synchro's have organic linings bonded to them similar to the clutch packs in an automatic trans or limited slip rear. If you use regular gear oil the synchros won't work.

I agree, use Redline, they make a manual trans fluid that works extremely well in T5's. You'll find that the trans never shifted so smooth. My T5 has 150,000 miles on it with one minor rebuild without getting blown up. The secret? Get a shifter with positive stops and don't power shift third gear.

Beside the Dextron III, GM Synthetic is also recommended--costs a smaller fortune, however.
