Where did this coolant come from?
I can't figure out where this coolant is coming from. It's on both sides of the timing cover and never "overflows". It just stays at that level. I can't find the leak...

Probably thermostat housing gasket or timing cover gasket seeping a little bit. I would try to re-seal thermostat housing again first and file the gasket surface to make sure it is flat. BTW, you really need to remove those rubber caps and install a molded bypass hose. Water bypass is important when thermostat is closed. If thermostat ever sticks shut- then ZERO water circulation!

Had the same problem with my engine (351W), t-stat mount. I used a little tiny thin line of high temp rtv to form a seal. Been holding fine ever since.

I second the bypass hose remark. Resurface the theromstat housing, glue the thermostat and gasket in place on it before reinstall, it keeps the thermostat from falling down during assembly. Wipe everything dry, then see where that coolant is leaking from.

I'm using a CSI billet water neck that swivels and has an 'o' ring seal. No problem

Definately the thermostat housing. I recently replaced the thermostat on my Mustang and I have a puddle just like the one in your picture. Maybe someday I'll get around to fixing the leak, but time spent on fixing the Mustang is time not spent on building the Cobra.
Roscoe - what size braided hose did you use for the radiator hose?

First off I use the CSI swivel billet waterneck. I run AN 16 hose to the CSI filler (you can see it in the right edge of the photo above.
This runs to my radiator. If your radiator does not have an AN fitting you can get an adapter from Goza. With an Edelbrock high volume alum pump and a 180 thermostat the car runs very cool. In fact, I had to change to a 180 from a 160 cause it ran too cool!

Why do you guys want AN radiator hoses? Your cooling system is not under great pressures, and most of you will still have to run a clamp-on adapter to mate the hoses to your radiator. Not to mention the bypass hose from the waterneck to the pump. They're heavier, much much more expensive, harder to plumb, no benefits over rubber hose, what am I missing here?

Just wondering (because I don't know)... AN16 has an id of 0.88 inches, substantially less than say a 1.5 id rubber hose. Anyone know what happens to the pressure and flow rate when the smaller diameter AN hose is used? Would the increase in pressure cause the water pump's impeller to cavitate earlier (at a lower RPM)?
It must work (look at Roscoe's temp readings)!

That's the same philosophy as exemplified by the rice burner crowd. Spend all your money on parts that look fast, then wonder why you keep going slow. The money spent on those fittings and hoses could pay for a decent bowl blending/ pocket port on your cylinder heads.
