Question Sealing rough fiberglass ???

I am getting ready to start working on the interior.
Really, really hate getting poked with the loose shreds of fiberglass.

I am thinking about smoothing out the rough glass
with 40 grit, and then sealing it with brush on
Rustolem paint.

Has anyone done anything like this,
think it will stick very well ??

Thanks,
Bill Cook

Lightbulb My hardtop

Has exposed fiberglass on the inside.. it is not rough, but I don't like the look, or the tiny particles of fiberglass that potentially can fly around in there as a result.. so I am using the latest 3M undercoating product.. it is in a spray can, dries hard, pretty thin, and with a reasonably smooth finish.. perfect. I bought it at a professional paint supply shop here in town.

Why don't you all just lay a coating of fiberglass resin as a gel coat?

Having owned and worked on sailboats for 20 yrs I've encountered my share of rough fibreglas--resin works ok, but the best results I've gotten is by using the West Sytem for working with and finishing 'glass--
You can find info on their website or at most marine suppliers or even body shops that specialize in fibreglas repair.

Have never tried BnB's idea, curious as to how well it holds up.

I too used the 3m product on the inside of my trunk and the fenderwells. It looks great and didn't get little hairline cracks in it like some of the cheaper brands available at the local auto store. I actually bought 3 different brands and sprayed test panels. The 3M was the clear winner.

p.s. I'm always running tests like that. Let me know if you want the clear winner for corrosion control of exposed or non-exposed steel.

I'm working on a hardtop for my Cobra and I didn't like the raw fiberglass look on the inside so I used Bondo body filler, and sanded it to a smooth finish. If you use West Systems epoxy resin mixed with microlight fairing filler, it will also work but the drying time is a lot longer than Bondo. This also works well on finising off the inside of your hood, to show it off when its opened.
