Which Oil Pan
Wanting to upgrade to a good road race oil pan from Canton. I have a 351W - not sure of the block year...Does that matter ? Their site says they have a couple for the 351W.
http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...ront_sump.html
Part #15-680 is the road race 9qt:
"FEATURES: Track proven diamond shape road race baffle with four trap doors and runners to direct oil to the pickup under all conditions, bolt in windage tray, temp. fitting, magnetic drain plug, crank scraper and dipstick bung."
Part #15-660 is the smaller version that is 7qts.
"FEATURES: Full Slosh Baffle, crank wiper, magnetic drain plug, dipstick bung."
I would assume the 9qt raod race pan is much better ?? Would that one fit any 351W ??

what pan do you have right now? what problem are you experiencing that makes you think you need a new oil pan?

since there is no crossmamber under you oil pan, you really only need worry about depth, you could even get a full length pan if you choose. Are you experiencing oil pressure flutter in the long sweeping turns? Do you have a windage screen that was properly fitted to the rotating assembly?

Milodon makes a Cobra Road Race pan with baffles. Also Gordon Levy.

No pressure drop in long sweeping turns, but sometimes I get a pressure drop when I really stomp on the brakes and bring it toa halt quickly...Pressure drops for a quick sec then goes right back up....I do have a windage screen.

Are the revs dropping dramatically as well on a panic-stop situation?
Pressure-drop could be an 'effect', not a 'cause'

Ron - I wouldn't really call it a "panic-stop" situation. With the car in neutral, coasting - I get on the brakes pretty hard and the motor kind of stammers, almost stalls...I think it is the carb or the fuel in the carb sloshing around and the motor almost stalling, thus the loss in pressure...If I do it in gear, and heel toe downshift, keeping the revs up, the motor never skips a beat and the pressure stays normal...

Argo...
What type of carb are you running? If it is a Holley double you might try lengthing the vent whistle in the secondary bowl. This cured my enging stalling under hard braking

Agro1 -
I had the same problems you describe even after going with the 7 quart Canton race pan. I solved the engine stumble problem by placing a 2" long rubber hose on the (I can't remember the real name) vertical tube on the aft side of the carburetor. I solved the oil pressure problem by installing an Accusump. If you think about it, if you're in a high G situation long enough, no arrangement of baffles will force the oil to run uphill to the collector.

Hmmmm - Sounds like an Accusump will be my next purchase...But I've run out of room in my engine bay...My remote breather is mounted on the front crossmember, where an Accusump would ideally go...

I have a Canton pan, with the baffles, but not sure which model. It was an excellent fit and just looks right. Top quality unit. I haven't been racing yet to prove its worth. I can't imagine a sweeping corner long enough to cause starvation. There is just too much capacity. One problem I have in everyday driving, even here in Florida: I have so much oil capacity now with the remote filter, and oil cooler and all those big oil lines, about 9 quarts total, that it takes a long time to get the oil to temperature, even with the oil cooler covered with foam all the time. I only take the foam plug out for car shows. The oil pan has LOTS of surface area, so there has to be some cooling taking place right at the pan. In 50 degree weather, the oil NEVER warms up. I wish now that I had installed a temperature bypass.
