Default LeMans Fuel Cap

My replica kit (West Coast) came with a small diameter fuel filler. I'd like to change to a large diameter LeMans style roller cap. However, I can only find pictures of the exterior surface and no information on what's underneath. Fill tube diameter, length and angle are missing. I also want to protect from fuel leakage during hard accels/cornering. The fill location will be center between the trunk and the cockpit and fill into a fuel cell installed directly below that surface. Right over the rear axle.

Any experience or installation instructions that would help here? I need to understand the interface with the cap/filler since I'm designing a custom fuel cell for fabrication.

Thanks,

Chuck

The cap bolts onto any flat surface and uses a flange that you drill the bolt pattern on yourself. It's Outside diameter is about 5.25" and the inside is 3.25".. You may mount your filler tune with the cap or independently of the cap.. Here is a pic.

A hint

Always use anti-seize on the threads mating the base and cap. They have been known to gall badly together if there's a flaw on the threads.

Hint #2:

Before you drill holes in the body for the base, assemble everything together firmly. Mark the holes in the body with your preferred cap orientation (and mark the base direction too), then you can disassemble for installing the fasteners.

Default What's underneath?

Thanks for all the responses. What I haven't found anywhere is what's underneath the cap that connects to the filler tube or filler neck? I assume there is a 2.0-2.5" diameter tube that is connected by a coupling hose to the fuel cell fill tube. Any info on diameter, length and angle would help me determine whether I have clearance to do what I want to.

Is the connection part what Enzo sells as the "base adapter"?

Guess I should call Enzo with these questions!

Thanks again,

Chuck

Hey Chuck

I just mentioned this in my email to you. It is simple to do and looks great. Just that one little problem. May be we need to get on the phone. I'll get over to email and send you a pic. Ain't figured out how to do it here yet.

Contemporary uses an old Mustang filler tube (flat flange) under the Lemans cap. Install a standard gas cap on the filler tube under the Lemans cap. Under the body, run a vent tube from the Mustang filler throught a filter to the ground. This will prevent a full tank in the hot sun from expanding and spilling out on your paint The Lemans caps are not leak proof
