Default Where To Mount MSD

I'm laying out the harness and trying to find the best spot for the MSD Box. Comments and pictures would be great.

keep it away from the heat and where water wont run on it. mine is mounted on passenger side footwell area, up under dash where it is protected from engine bay heat, feet and water. they don't like to get hot as that is when 'msd' means 'mighty sorry device'. bill.

My MSD and coil is on the firewall, inside behind dash and insulated, ordered an extra 4' wire from MSD. I was a littled
concerned about the distance from the distributor but after many miles, no problem.....

Ditto - mine's on the firewall, passenger side, inside the passenger compartment. I figured it would stay cooler and dry there, plus it's out of sight. If you get the 6AL, remember to mount the box so you can get at the rpm limiter chip, should you want to change it.

Mines on the passenger side firewall behind the dash also. Must be the place to mount it.

Default MSD Box

I've got mine on the passenger side footbox--inside the box on the top--out of sight--dry--and easy to get too.......

I've got mine mounted on the back side of the dashboard, on the passenger side. I have two small pieces of angle-iron, attached to the dashsboard and dampened by rubber bushings, mounted vertically and bolted to the bottom dashboard brace. The MSD box is bolted to these uprights with the connections and limiter chip facing down.

What a great site

Thanks guys - looks like it's in the upper part of the passenger footbox or backside of the dash.

I use the same S/S bolts for the MSD and the crankcase oil breather.

Hey, here's a radical location for you - in the trunk! It's a 7AL-2, but that's where the guy who set up my EFI puts all of his units. No problems due to the long wire runs, either.

Viva la differance!

Roscoe,

The engine bay is not a good spot. I had my first MSD mounted there and I cooked it….too much heat. My engine seemed like it was running too fat and after screwing around with carbs I finally realized that there was an ignition problem. I now have mine mounted against the firewall in the passenger footbox. It is much cooler there.

Cheers, Pete

Pete,
I hear ya. I've had this mounted there for almost 3 yrs and 13k. So far so good. Too late to move it now.
