Default Where to get a chromed helmet?

I've seen a lot of race drivers with the partially or fully "chromed" helmets. I can't find any suppliers that have these helmets in stock, and I don't want to pay the big $$$ for a totally custom airbrushed and chroed masterpiece.

Any idea of where to get one for the right price?

Thanks!

Craig

Craig,

I don't think you're going to find chrome in the catalog.

I've got a friend that is a graphics artist in the Motocross industry and also has a custom helmet painting business. He was paying $200.00 per helmet to have them chromed; that's after stripping the helmet to the bare shell and prepping the surface. The whole helmet is chromed and then painted over the chrome.

If you're interested in getting one chromed I can put you in touch.

By the way, Troy Lee helmets like Paul Tracy's and Jeromey McGraths are around $2500.00

Scott - are they that much!?! Maybe my trusty Arai helmet might have to keep on a while longer... Thanks for the breakdown of the actual chroming price. I imagine there must be an enormous amount of labour involved in stripping, chroming then airbrushing new graphis in place - hence the high final price.

Art - it's a ood start, but I don't know if the Tech Inspectors will see the funny side

I wonder... and frankly it would be a long shot ... if you could use chrome monocoat to cover a helmet? Monocoat is a flexible thermal plastic sheeting material used to cover radio controlled model airplanes.

Some heat from a heat gun, some stretching of the monocoat, maybe, just maybe.

Just an idea.

Pete,

For small areas or for narrow areas my buddy uses a chrome film (monocoat?) . Eventually he gets some lifting, but since most of his helmets are for motocross the life expect of the paint job is short anyway.

How does monocoat adhere, adhesive backed?

Harley Davidson sells Chrome looking helmets. I don't know if they are approved for the type of events you intend to use it for, but it is worth checking with your local bike shop.
