Scott (and everyone else) -
Before I ran on my Bridgestones and Yokohamas (both treaded high performance tires), I talked with the technical people at their US headquarters about tire pressure, explaining exactly what I have (including weight - my Cobra is heavier than most), intend to do, etc.
Both manufacturers strongly recommended that I not run the tires below 25 psig. They both said that the tire pressure calculator puts my theoretical pressure at around 22-23 psig. (I presume that lighter cars would be slightly less).
I run my tires at 25 psig with no complaints about handling or performance.
The few times that I have run on the track, I have run at around 28 psig (cold).
I don't know for sure, but there may be a situation like the Firestone tires on Ford Explorers at work here - with tread separation. If they say don't go below 25 psig, I'm going to heed their advise!!!
Regards,
Frank Newman
