Correct period tires for SPF 427SC?
Can someone shed some light on the issue of tires for 427SC Cobras? My SPF 1649 should be in within the next couple of weeks and I need to make a decision as to what tires to use. Originally I am planning on black only Yokohamas 255 front and 295 rear. (not sure of these although I have heard some good things about them)
I have seen some cobras with GoodYear's large white-letters which look cool. Does anybody know where can you get these large white lettered GoodYear tires? Are these period correct?
Any help will be appreciated.

Those can be ordered by any Goodyear dealer.. They are most commonly referred to as Cobra Tires..
Roger Krause (yes that Roger Krause) sells them in all popular sizes. I have a few sets of tires you might like for sale in my gallery..

The Yokohamas are an excellant choice.
There are several tires available, and I am sure your dealer can supply what you want,
I went with the BFG's, since I wanted the widest tire in the rear (305's) I could get. You give up some ride with the BFG's, and the Yokohamas are easier to balance (better quality tire). The 305's are no longer available that I am aware.
I will most likely look at the above posted tires when I get through roasting the tread of mine. I like the BIG Goodyear look.

as i recall from several postings from the gashole gang last year (some had those tires ) that the BIG goodyear printed tires are not DOT approved , are sticky and collect lotsa small stones and road debris quickly ...thereby sandblasting unprotected body parts that are within target range of the tire spray. however, they do look cool and period correct. bill.

I believe Hoosier makes DOT legal 15" (correct) "Cobra Tires"..., and I think Roger
Krause sells those...
HOOSIER in big letters looks pretty good too...
(OK..., but not correct).

On today's big letter Goodyears the lettering is larger than that used on the original CSX cars--but as close as one can find--for that "period" look--unless you happen to find some original tires stuffed in someones barn for the last 30 some years 
The original tires had Good,winged foot,Year in about 1-11/4 in tall letters , white. I had these same type tires on my '67 vette, when I bought it in '70.

What size tire was used if you go with period coerrect tires? The fronts have a cross section with of 11 inches and thge rears are 13 inches!

"Period correct" would be Goodyear Blue Dots, but they aren't around anymore.
As neat as the large lettered Goodyears look, you may want to think twice about mounting a set if you are doing any appreciable driving. They have a tendency to "hunt", wear quickly, and pick up stones and other debris, and mimic a sandblaster with the leading edge of your rear fenders.
For trailer queens, show cars or those seldom driven...none better for the "effect". But for road use, there are DOT approved products available that while not "original", get pretty close, and are a much better alternative.

I don't think they blasted the sides of my car any worse than other tires have done to the sides of friends cars...

Gary and I actually have the Goodyear Blue Streak Rain tires....they wander all over the freakin place and I can tell you that I get a whole lot more rocks and crap with these...I don't really care they look great on the car.
You can only get the tires now from Shelby or Roger Krause with the Goodyear Eagle on them...they are a little different but still not DOT approved...
I can't remember the sizes they aren't measured like normal tires.......9.5x15x something and 10x15xsomething
