Default Powertrax Help!!!!!

I took my car out for it's first drive the other day after waiting to get insurance taken care of. I pull out of the driveway, as I ease into it and grab second, nothing! I thought I missed the gear? The problem is I did'nt! I poped it back to first, heard a clunck in the rearend and I have power to the rearend. This time it goes into second and seems to be ok. I turn around to head back to the shop and again the rear end has nothing with an eventual clunk and it engages.

Ford 9" with 3:70s and a powertrax locker. Me and a friend built it It seemed extremely simple I can't imagine what we could have done wrong.

I pulled it in the garage, Jacked it up. There is a test that you can run that comes in the instructions that passed the first time. This time I put it in gear and can spin the tires either direction by hand? (Not right!) I called the number for Powertrax (Now owned by Auborne gear)

As soon as I read the guy the Part Number which starts with VX, he says oooooooh, you got one of those...... He told me this was discontinued before they bought Powertrax and could not help me?????????????

Does anyone know anything about these "VX" type lockers????? Or experienced anything like it?

Default Powertrax Owner

Powertrax is now owned by Richmond Gear. I have a Lock right Locker in my S10 V8 powered drag truck. I know it will break or wear out sooner or later, but you can buy and install several of these for the cost of a Detriot locker or similar unit and you don't have to remove the carrier and set it up again to change them out.. I have had good luck with the Powertrax No-Slip in my dodge V10 street tow truck. Richmond Gear is usually very good with customer service. They like to maintain a very high reputation. You might try them and suggest that they give you a No-slip for the 9" at a good price. They don't usually sell Powertrax direct retail. Drive train Specialists are about the best prices I could find.

vetklr, I have a Powertrax no-slip in my 8.8. When I installed it I couldn't get it to "test" on the jackstands. I really didn't think it was going to work.
The first time I drove it my suspicions were confirmed, it seemed to slip and jerk a lot. After some sharp left and right turns and a couple of backups it started working as advertised. Now it will "test" on jackstands and I love it.
I dunno, maybe the oil has to work it's way inside or something.
I suggest you put some driving time on it before final judgement.
