Spring Rates
OK, I know this is going to sound like a stupid question, especially since I have been racing fo ra dozen years, but here goes.. What spring rates, diameters, and heights are small blocks running on the corners of your cars? I am not using a rear sway bar or coil overs. The stock Mustang springs dropped my car to the ground, 4.5" frame height from the ground, toooooo low. Thanks for the help.

Leslie,
I think I am running 400# or 450# coil over springs with a 428 FE.

Clois, what is your ride height from the frame to the ground with those springs and the BBF? Are these front springs bigger than 5" diameter? My pipes are only 3" from the ground with the stock Mustang springs. Thanks

My frame height is about 6 or 7" off the ground and my side pipes lowest point is about the same as yours. My lowest point on my car is my Lakewood bellhousing and it sits only 3 1/2" off the ground, my Canton oil pan rides approx. 4 1/4" off the ground. I avoid speed bumps but for almost four years I haven't had any problems except ocassionally when I offload my car from my trailer. I have had my bellhousing scrape the hindged portion of my ramp when I am backing the Cobra out. I will be cutting about an inch off the bottom of my bellhousing the next time I change out my clutch.
I have thought about going with longer springs and shocks but I don't know about changing the geometry of my upper and lower A Arms.
Clois

Les..
With an Excal. body weight (should be very similar to a Classic Roadster, the CR II is 10lbs heavier now with our new additions to the frame)), small block, MustII stock control arms we use 375in*lbs in front, unless you shop in the BIG & tall dept. The difficult part is getting these rates in the MustII/Pinto diameter of 4 3/4"D spring and the 11" length needed in front with the CR tower design. We are on it at Classic Roadsters II, so we are now having them special made so no more cutting length to fit and too low of a spring rate. These are the springs supplied with every new CRII 427. Cost is $52/spring to buy individually.
We use 225 - 250in*lb in back, 5in diameter, 13in tall, when no sway bar added. Can sell you those too for the same price.
This is the sport cruiser specs! We also have an upgrade shock if you are interested. Also have coilover systems...
Hope this answers your question.
Give me a call, if you want the setup.
Jay

Jay, I have 250's for the rear, they are 13". They are left over from racing. I would think that 375's would be a little lite, do you have something in the 425 range that meet the other specs? If you do I can order them from you shortly! I appreciate your help and will be asking more questions after i disassemble and prep for paint and reassembly for the road. Thanks
