Question Good Source for Cloth Shop Rags or Towels?

Hi Gang:
I am looking for about 500 or so cloth shop rags. The nice ones with the stitched edges. I am sure you know the kind?

Offhand, do you know of a good (inexpensive) source for these shop towels? Or generically, where in my area could I find a large supply?

Also, what is a good unit price?

Thanks.

Default Find a nurse

....or other hospital employee and get some old linen . The knit type thicker sheets make great shop rags and they're the best price (free). While you're scamming stuff they throw away, get some old surgical tools for tricky little jobs.

Costco/Cosco...whatever...they have a bundle of cotten terry rags for like 12 bucks. You can actually wash them and reuse. DO NOT wash in wifes washing machine!!!! YOU WILL DIE! Go to a laundramat.

Man do I know all about N O T washing shop towels in wifes washing machine. I even ran a load of bleech and detergent after I finished my towels. Didnt' help much. Wife was really Pi$$ed.

I had the whole laundry room smelling like chemicals and oil for awhile. I would have been better off throwing them away.

I have been soaking rags in a 50/50 of water and Simple Green overnight in a 30 gallon plastic trash can. I have an old ringer from closed carwash to ring out and then let dry. The wife makes a run to the laundrymat and then washes in special BIG machine. I do sort out the rags with bearing grease etc.. they are not worth the effort and get 86'd.

Find a contact that works in a hospital. OR/surgery/cath the sterile towels that come in the sterile premade "tool kits" are disposable. Once opened even if not used they throw em away. Laundry dept usually saves nice rags for the cleaning and maint depts. Hotel industry is also a source. There is a guy at Butler and Carisle car shows that sells in bundles.
If you have to buy then ask local machine shop what rag man he uses. Some are pretty cheap and all you do is throw in a can and they take them back no mess no HOURS cleaning HER washer....

Good ideas here but I have a question - 500 rags . What are you doing Art and is it legal ?

Get rid of the FE and you can probably get by with 5 rags

Sounds to me like there is going to be some cobra owners with tenor voices if they ever get caught.
