Wheelwell product that eliminates rock "starring" (NO PUN INTENDED)

Can anyone out there offer advice on how to prevent potential "stars" in a fresh paint job from rocks slinging off one's tires inside the wheelwells? Is there some product that can be applied inside the wheelwell that will protect from this occurring? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Brad:
It would be a great help if Goodyear and Goodrich would make tires that did not have siping. A simple block tread would pick up far fewer rocks.

Foam is the answer. You need to install 3/8" closed cell foam (black preferably) inside the wheelwells, just where it meets the body. Use a good contact adheasive on both surfaces. I've seen this done on several aluminum cars. I have the foam for mine, just need to install it.

Inside the wheelwells, use rattle-can rubber undercoating. Put on a few layers. It also stops the can-of-marbles sound when rocks hit the wheelwells.

I used that Herculiner self applied bedliner stuff. Works great. You can buy it at your local NAPA or Checkers. Buy the big kit. I bought the small kit and got one thick coat on all four wells. I also looks good and cleans easy. It goes on real easy, especially if you remove the wheels. You do need to stir it often while applying. When you read the instructions, there's this part that tells you to wear gloves and not to get it on your skin. I should have listened. It does not come off after it dries, unless you remove the first couple layers of skin with it! Oh yeah! wear a hat also. Ciao.

I also used the Herculiner material and I am very happy with it. I used undercoating on my last car and it SUCKED. The herculiner rolls on so there is no mess. Just use masking tape around the openings and go for it.

We use Herculiner in all our bodies before they ship. NOT ONE COMPLAINT AS OF YET, looks good and stays put.

Brad, Over the summer I saw a couple of new csx Aluminum body 4000 built by shelby. They both had what felt and looked like a black wet suit mat glued to inside of all the fender wells. The next monday i called shelby american and was told i could buy a sheet of it from them..... hope this helps i think this is my choice.....

Go with the Bed Liner material. It's forever and and easy to use. I've used the Morton brand from an automotive paint supply house. 1 kit should do the job for the inner wheels wells, and it comes with a special Spray Nozzle for application. You can get it in colors too. Very Cool stuff!!
