Toploader: Need shifter advice

Folks,

I switch trannies from a long tailshaft Toploader to a Mustang RUG-AE2 tranny with C70R tailshaft. The shifter is too far forward and the arms are hitting the frame crossmember. Shifter needs to move back about 4 inches to line up with shifter boot in tunnel. Are there common part numbers anyone can post and maybe a pick of proper setup for this tranny? I can swap shifter with my engine builder, just want to be able to tell him as well what I need.

Your shifter location is for a Torino. Ford used an adapter plate to move the shifter back the 3-4" for the Mustang location. I am going to have some more plates made up for a project I am working on. If you want one let me know. By the way when you move the shifter to the Mustang position the shifter rods will need to be replaced or extended.

Why don't you just source a 14" tailshaft housing with the shifter holes cast in the correct rearward position? If you cant find a good one at a wrecking yard, Dave Kee or Ford Power Parts should be able to help

You will need new shifter rods. Try Bill Neeley for those.
