Default Help with electric fuel pump location!

I have Rick Carnahan's Shell Valley with the 351 "Cleavor" that was for sale on this sight. The car had a Fram fuel filter and a Summit Racing electric fuel pump mounted about six to seven inches above the outlet on the fuel tank. This was mounted in a very close proximity to the tank itself by means of an "adder" bracket Rick had installed between the frame rails behind the trunk. It was the perfect set-up for the tight and cramped quarters allowed by the Shell Valley design, but the fuel pump fried and quit pumping, leaving him stranded earlier this year! The Shell Valley fuel tank outlet is at the bottom of the tank, which leads me to believe that getting an electric pump to work might be difficult. Most of the electric pumps I'm familiar with are gravity fed and don't provide much suction to raise fuel in elevation to the inlet side of a pump. I have been told to try a Holley brand "Red" electric fuel pump, as the person offering this advice swears that he gets elevational lift with his. After checking all the available configurations with the Shell Valley, I am finding that the closest location (and the safest) I can get to the outlet of the tank with this Holley pump is about four inches above the opening without leaving it dangling behind the rear-end. I intend to install some type of filter with changeable cartridges before the pump, and I'm estimating to have about ten to twelve inches of 3/8" tubing before the pump from the tank outlet (this is including the filter length in this distance) I'm curious to see everyone's opinion about my hopeful success with this situation. Any suggestions or helpful comments? Forthcoming solution-providing suggestions would be greatly appreciated! And are there any other Shell Valley owners out there with ideas?

Default Fuel pump location

I have a red holly works great. Just fired engine today and everything was fine. (little problem with figuring out firing but that's another thread) Locate it as close to level at output of tank is what holly recommended. I have a in line fuel filter between pump and tank. Also one between regulator and carb. Don't know of exact situation with your frame and all but I needed to construct a 2x2 6" angle and attach it to frame mounted nice with holley pump holder. Line runs something like this-
From tank loops over rear axle (drivers side) at top of loop just beyond the axle (to give clearance for axle movement) mounted canister type fuel filter took 90 degree angle off ouput to run straight down to pump. This comes straight down to fuel pump which had 90 degree barb at imput. Pump sits upright and has straight barb which takes to fuel pump regulator mounted on frame. Hope this helps.

As I've been told- Run it like you stole it.
