Default Mustang II or Pinto

I need a emergency brake retainer piece, the piece that engages the continuous loop e-brake cable--my NAF 289 has either the
M-II or Pinto emergency brake--they were the only Fords to use this system.

The part is not available through Ford, or any parts store, and I've checked every junkyard within 40 miles and only found 6 cars, none with a rearend.

This piece has a a hole in the forward end through which the "Z" type fitting from the brake handle is attached--Real mickey mouse type of attachment IMO--from which point you make your adjustments on the threaded rod from the brake "Z" type rod.

I was adjusting the rear brakes and had loosened the e-brake, took the car out to check the braking--forgot to retighten the e-brake and somewhere lost this piece---dumb

So if any of you have one or know where I can get one, or if you happen to have one on a parts car please let me know.

I really don't want to change out my e-cable---and I'm not a machinist

Gary I may have one left from my build. Is the piece you are looking for designed where the cable from the brake handle feeds into the front center and then each cable from the rear brakes attach to the sides with a tension (length) adjusting bolt in between the front cable and rears? If so I may have one you can have. I will look to night and send you an email this weekend.

Clois

You can make one out of a Stanley shelf bracket from the hardware store. Equally mickey mouse, but it works. Remember this trick as it will come in handy for other assorted make a bracket for something issues.

Machinist tools needed are a vice, center punch, hammer, drill bits, and drill.

Clois--the pinto/Mustang II e-brake cable is a continuous loop, drivers side to passenger side--only Fords that had this system.
Thanks for the offer though.

Guess it'll be "make my own time" if I don't find one

The continuous loop can be emulated by looping the cables over each other and cinching the looped ends together with cable clamps. They look like mini muffler clamps in 1/8", & 3/16".

Another method is a cable stop on each cable that slides over each cable, and fastens with an Allen screw. It's not as good at equalizing the tension on both cables, but it is enough to keep the car from rolling on a slight grade.

These are hardware store items usually found in he "Nuts & Bolts" section with the lawn mower, weed eater, and snow blower parts area.

True Value type stores are usually better for nut ball pieces needed for bracketmaking than Lowes or Home Depot. Typically, the True Value type places at least have salespeople with a fair command of the English language, and are somewhat knowledgeable in home DIY projects. The one I go to has several reired guys that are veteran DIY'ers, and speak The King's English like they were born here (they were). Street rodders, restorers, automotive and aircraft kit builders frequent this place because they usually have it. And if not, they can get it from McMaster-Carr or a dozen indusrial supply houses.
