Default 9" Ford r/e question.....

Hello,

In my overzealousness with the axel remover on my streetrod, I did not notice the axel was hanging up on the backing plate whilst i was banging away with the axle puller. I have now seemed to 'hurt' the metal gasket that is between the backing plate and axel housing. Any idea on where to get one of these gems, provided I cannot fix the current one? Can I get away with a paper gasket?

Have tried Ford (no longer make and do not have), Randy's Ring and Pinion as well as the local parts houses - Napa, Carquest.....

David

David,
I would suggest giving Currie Ent. a call.
I have 2 of their rear axle assemblies.1 under my Cobra and another under a '68 Nova.

Default Solved - Currie Ent

This is the email response I received (within 10 minutes)....

This gasket is really something you can just take out and trash - it really doesn't do anything. Ford put them in there theoretically to be a harmonics deadener, but they didn't work for that purpose anyway, and they have nothing to do with the fluid sealing.
Thanks.

Isn't Club Cobra great.

Problem solved in 30 minutes.

No telling what all you would have gone through without the internet AND Club Cobra.
