thread of windwing brackets

who knows the correct thread for the little srews holding the wind deflectors to the windshield?
mine is not Metric M5, whose pitch is the same but M5 is bigger in diameter.
it's not a 12-24.

I need the shorter ones to remove the windwings. I do not want to cut the long ones to fit. I may need them later.

Dom - on mine they are a BA thread, 2 BA from memory (maybe 4BA??)

The thread size will vary depending on what windshield you have: Domestic or UK. However, the best way to mount windwings is to drill and tap the frame. You will avoid possible headaches when you strip the original threads trying to mount your windwings.

I agree with Roscoe. Do not try to use the existing holes. Too much chance of ctracking the glass if the screw length is not just right. I did not tap the frame, because it is chrome platted brass after all, I thought too much chance of stripping the threads. I just drilled thru and used stainless screws, washers and nylok nuts. Looks great and no worries.

I was also very concerned about cracking the glass.

in my case I took the windwings off and wanted to insert shorter screws to fix the windshield.

It must be this odd british version. I "bluntly" used M5 screws now who went in 1/2" deep easily.

again I got no notofication of this thread, although it is listed in my list of subscribed threads.

I made new lower brackets from square stock brass. The mounting holes are equal distant from the front edge of the frame. The frame is tapered getting larger the lower you go. Problem is the windwing crosses the rear edge at a point midway. the windwing doesn't fold flat for garaging and if bumped it breaks the wing at that point.With my longer lower bracket the wing fits the rear edge evenly .Folds flat, parallel with the side of the car and doesn't get broken as someone passes too close. Big butts and small garages.Local platers all folded so not plated yet.
