Oil Leak from hell
I have an oil leak that I can not find if my life depened on it. I have a ford racing 302 with the 303 roller cam in it. The leak is on the driver side and only leaks (I should say sprays) when the car is moving and over 3500 rpm. I can't find the location because the whole bottom half is cover in oil. The value cover and the top of the heads stay dry so I know it not the value cover gasket. Any ideas on what would cause that? I think it might be the head gasket but I place a piece of duck tape along seal and it ran it. When I pulled it off there was no oil on the bottom but the top was cover.  |

The valve covers stay dry, but a strip of duct tape run along the head/block crack gets oily on top of the tape? Maybe the intake manifold end gaskets are leaking, and the oil is running along the crack.
Clean it all up really good, then start looking for the source again. Don't drive it, just idle it in the driveway or rev it up if necessary, but don't drive it, that will blow the oil all over the place and you won't be able to tell where it is coming from.

Fletch, do you have a oil pressure sending unit around the area.
Sounds too easy, but these things can blow alot of oil when they go bad. Just a thought.

I think Starwolf56 has got it. Oil pressure unit is on drivers side. possibly a leak in the line. Could be a crack that only opens when the pressure is enough to spray out instead of drip. If you have the Autometer gauges, you have mechanical feeds, it would be the line. If you have VDO it would be the sending unit.

Fletch,
check where your oil dip stick is, if you have one in the oil pan
or the timming cover, some of the ford motors have one drivers side on the block just above the oil pan about 3/4 back
you can feel it by runnimg your finger down the block just above the oil pan. You will feel a half moon cut out and a hole for the dip stick.

I will have to believe you have already checked everything else.

If you're running a mechanical fuel pump and the bolts come loose, oil can escape between the engine and the pump flange. (I know from experience.) The car may run fine until the pump gets so loose as to nearly fall off. Check those bolts and the gasket.

We had some new crate engines that leaked so bad at RPM they actually sprayed. It turned out to be a small hole in the block casting behind the starter. I have had this happen twice. It would be worth looking at. Hope this helps

Thanks guy, found the problem another dip stick hole that I missed. Who knew the would be 3 drip stick hole on an motor. So, now I feel like an idoit for missing something so simple.

Nuh-uh...I've never made any mistakes before. That's what JP stands for, Just Perfect...
Nevermind shearing off a metric bolt in my brand new flywheel when installing the pressure plate. But that wasn't my fault. Someone gave me the wrong bolts. Like I was supposed to check them......HA!
