Does anyone know wich screw on the Holly750 would make it burn less rich?Just want to be sure.It is going to be nice here in Long Island on Sunday.Thanks and Here comes the nice weather

For the idle system it is the ones on the sides of the metering block. What is it you are trying to do?

there aren't enough screws or jets to get that much carb lean enough! I suggest a Speed Demon 650 with mechanical secondaries.

Ok hold on. He never said what size engine he has. For a 302 it is large for a 351 built up it about right. For a 460 it may be to small.
I think the question was how to lean it out with out taking it apart. That is why I said he can change the idel mix with the screws. If the engine is to rich at cruise you can change the jet size but you have to remove the bowl. |
oh contrair mo frair, I have a Windsor that is pushin 420 Hp that couldn't handle the 750 even when taken down 3 stages. I put on the 650 and have never looked back. I would even bet that I got more Hp and will follow up with a new dyno to see.

All I can tell you is that we use the 750 vacuum secondary on all of our 351W. We build them to put out 400+ hp as our stock engine set up. Never had a problem with one to rich or acting like the carb was to large. Maybe you did not have yours set up correctly?
I would still like to know what he is trying to do and more about his engine set up. |
For off idle conditions you can also lean it out by lowering the float level. .....it's cheating, but it will lean it.

I have used the 3310/ 4160 model carbs for years and still like them. Easy to tune and service. What more could you want? |
There is no problem with the way it runs.It is a351 Clvd little over 400 hp soild lifters and so on.It just seems that when ever I drive it I smell like exst fumes.I don't know if it is because of the side pipes or is this just a thing that happens with the pipes?People say it might be running rich what do you think?thanks Brian

I run CAM2 (when I can afford it) in my 408 with a 750 Speed Demon that Bruce Edwards would argue could be right on the money or even a hair lean....and I reek of gas after a drive - or after standing in the garage for 5 minutes for that matter. Recommendation: Drive faster and open the floor vents if you got 'em...
Since when was smelling like gasoline a bad thing? Seems to drive the ladies mad... PS - no real reason to run CAM2 other than it smells real good. Just over 10:1 CR, aluminum heads, runs ok on 94. |
If it smells rich it more than likely is. Check the plugs. Are they nice and clean or do they have black on them? If they are to hot they will have a shine to them meaning it is to lean.
If it is set to rich you are wasting fuel and washing out the rings in the engine. Try a smaller jet size. J.P. What I am saying is that the carb should be the correct size for the engine. I never said it was jetted for the engine. That falls under the heading of 'Tuneing". |
