I inquired recently about using Linex the bed liner product. I got scared off by the $3000 estimate for labor and materials.

Just curious as I am ready to paint my garage floor and am looking for any ideas for a cool paint scheme on the walls of the garage.

Jetlaag - you are right on the money. ASTM standard D4263 (commonly called the "mat test") outlines a moisture testing procedure that calls for taping an 18" x 18" piece of plastic onto the floor- sealed with duct tape all around. After 18 hours, look for presence of condensation under the plastic - if none is visible you are OK. It is basically a pass/fail test. Where it gets fuzzy is if there is no moisture present, but the concrete is darkened under the plastic.
To measure exact content, you need fairly sophisticated equipment for the average homeowner - I would suggest you try the "mat test" first. Here is a link to more exotic equipment if you wish....
http://www.constructionbook.com/xq/A...x/default2.htm
I am out of country until Sunday. If you email me, I can forward the ASTM standard to you upon my return.

One of the homes I looked at in SC had their garage floor coated. It looked great and I asked him how long ago he had it done. He said SEVEN years ago (and he showed me the reciept). It looked brand new. It's very close to the product a buddy of mine in Chicago had done a few years back and it has also held up fine (Durabond). Heck, I may buy that guys house just because of the garage!
The company he used is called Premier Garage ( www.Theultimategarage.com). They also do some pretty nice custom cabinets (the home owner had some of those as well, along with a nice built in work bench). Apparantly, these are small franchises all over the country. Check the website and there may be one near you. They do a solid color application, or they also offer a "simulated granite" (which this guy had) that looks awsome. Easy to maintain too. He said all he does is broom it out and every once in awhile he mops it. he said he's spilled gasoline and oil on it many times and never had a problem. Just wiped off with a paper towell or rag. I also noticed that he owned a floor jack and I asked about damage from that. He walked over and started rolling it around, back and forth, and then he jumped up and down on it. It didn't leave a mark. Then he took a 2 by 4 that was propped up in a corner (about 4ft long) and started beating it into the floor! Not a scratch could be found.
..........I was sold.

DV,
I went with the Wonder Paint. The stuff just arrived yesterday.
So far, they have been great to work with, answering questions, etc.. I'm excited to put this stuff down, and see how it looks.
If you want to see the raw materials, or want more info or a contact, lemme know. Hoping to get started when the weather breaks. (whenever that may be... )
~Dave
PS> You help me with mine, I'll help you with yours! I need to come over there and check out that new shop, anyway.

SnakeBit: you may want to ask him to leave some brake fluid and/or gas, and brake cleaner, for a real test....If it holds up then it could last over time if the proper prep is done

I second the question!
While Racedeck sounds nice, I have a sinking feeling it's well out of my price range- mostly because people continually ask the price in these forums... and get zero response.
Enquiring minds wanna know!

NASCAR Garage
I have inquired with DEI and Rousch Racing as to the floor coating used in their NASCAR race shops. Will post the response
www.precisionepoxy.com
Above company is located in Georgia, mentions their product is used in the motorsports industry without any specfic race shop mentioned
All the race shop pictures appear to have a coated surface, have not seen any using tiles of any type ?

Racedeck....
For my 23x19 two car garage, they wanted about $1200 for the diamond-style panels. This is product only. Labor would be yours truly, although the dealer in So Cal will do installs as well, if you wanted them to.

The cost depends on what style ( 4 styles and 14 colors) and what qaunity you are looking at ( over 500 feet puts you at a better price break. We have dealers throughout the country or you can call me direct...You are looking at a price of anywhere of $2.49 to $2.99 with CC discounts..
jmoller@snaplock.com and I will make sure that you get your CC discount...

I have found 2 race deck dealers in the SE region that sell the Race Deck at $2.49 a sguare foot, one plus shipping, the other shipping included. One will sell any quanitity, the other any but prefers at least 2 to 3 cases. I am "not" posting their info but if anyone would like it feel free to contact me.
