Mityvac and toolrage.com

Time for the complete fluid changes again. I don't know about most of you but I dread the gear oil change in the diff and trans. I use all the old tricks which help but it still ends up a mess. So I am thinking of buying a Mityvac plus, part number 07201, that both evacuates and dispenses fluids. Any one have any experience with these?

Also, www.toolrage.com has it for the best price going, $66.95. Any one have any dealings and/or knowledge of toolrage?

I have one and really like it. I used it to remove auto trans fluid when I inadvertently put too much in. I put the hose down the dipstick tube and it worked great. I also like the knob that lets me use vacuum or pressure. The only complaint I have is the plastic catch bottle that comes with the kit is too small. I haven't found any commercially available large bottles so I'll probably make my own. Just one more thing on the list when I get time.

You may be refering to one of the other Mityvac products. The one that I am interested in holds 2.3 gallons. For a home garage, that would seem to be plenty. Thanks for the input though!

I much prefer to crawl under the car, fuss with various totally useless methods for getting trans fluid into a small hole way up in the tunnel with no room to manuver, watch at least 50% of the goop stream down my arm and collect in my armpit, and then smell that crap in the laundry for weeks!

I use mine quite a lot. It is very true the small collection jar is too small.

I took a "Mason" jar lid (those disk things) and drilled two holes in it about 1" apart. Then I soldered two brass double ended hose nipples in the holes, maybe 5/16" nipples. Then a hose is attached to one of the hose nipples on the inside of the lid, this hose will hang down into the liquid. The lid is assembled on a jar, I have 1/2 and full quart sizes, and two hoses are attached on the nipples on the outside of the lid.

I don't think a gallon size jar would be much fun, you have to draw a vacuum on the volume of the jar. A gallon would be lots of pumping on a Mity-vac.

Note that you can blow fluids into something also, just fill the jar and reverse the hose connections.

Does it look like the dipstick tubes will work?
Ive got the aviad pan on my 427 and would hate to get this thing and find out i still have to pull the drain plug....
If u think it looks ok, Im gonna order one of those bad boyz right away!

Sure does look like the dipstick tubes will work (three hoses of different sizes included). Might even be small enough to suck the gas out of the float bowl before you crack them open. The only thing I can think of is if you have a dropped sump type pan and the dipstick is on the opposite side from the sump I don't know how it would get down to the sump. Maybe it will. But I have a rail type pan, probably like yours, so it will not be an issue. No more jacking up the car to change the oil!!!!!!!!!

I keep thinking of all the uses, fill and drain the brake fluid reservors (mine are a pain to get to under the fender and spills occur), fish tank, clogged sink, what else?????? You know, if you put clean brake fluid in it, attached it to modified caps, you could use the thing to pressure bleed the brakes, or easier yet to vacuum bleed them. No more pump, fill, pump, fill, pump, fill.

It is graduated as well so if what ever you where draining was full, put that much fluid back in it and fill it up. No more puddles of gear oil on the garage floor for me because I put to much gear oil in the funnel!

Can't beleive the price, $53! New and in the box with all the paperwork. Looked like it was dropped shipped from Mityvac.

I went through all these kind of thoughts last night. My wife thought I was nuts. How could I get so stinking excited over a darn evacuator/dispensor? At least when I get excited over a new tool it has some REAL use. She gets the same way over shoes or having her nails done! Women.
