10.5 or 11 inch clutch 408W?
I bought a Mcleod 10.5 inch 800 series clutch plate and a 10.5 inch diaphram pressure plate. I also have the 164 tooth steel flywheel which will accept either 10.5 inch or 11 inch clutch. My setup is 408W, TKO, ford 9" rear.
Should I exchange my 10.5 inch clutch plates for 11 inch plates? |
bigger is better! I went from an 11.5 to a 12 inch McCleod myself. You need all the clutch you can get it.

I don't know...these cars are awfully light. I think if you're running slicks...sure...but not with street tires...and not with a 2300 lb car. I'm running a 425ci Windsor, 9" rear and a Toploader....I have a 10.5 Hays Street/Strip disc and a 10.5" Hays Street/Strip B&B pressure plate....rated for about 2800 lbs clamping force.

Can you get a 12 inch clutch on a 164 tooth flywheel? Were you using a diaphram or long style pressure plate? Blykins No slicks and no drag racing, only street and road course. |
Dave, Excal is running a big block.....the flywheels are a little bigger and usually drilled for bigger pressure plates/clutches....
I'd stick with the 10.5" piece....should be fine.... |

I bought a Mcleod dual disc setup, 10.5 inches. On a chassis dyno , I promise there is no slippage. When we testing, some of the best single disc setups would show slippage after about 400-415 rear wheel horsepower. I think I paid about $1400 for eveything, aluminum flywheel, cutch-pressure plate set-up, and their steel bellhousing. On the street, it has very easy pedal effort, when she grabs it is locked for sure. DON |

I have a Keith Craft 408 on order.It will be in the 450-460 rwhp and have decided to go with the McLeod Street Twin Disc as well. Are you using a slave cylinder or hyd t/o bearing ?? |
bigger is better. If 12" is possible, you should go there.

I am using a hydraulic t/o bearing assembly. Man you won't believe how easy the thing works. Saves a bunch of space around where the slave cylinder suppose to be. Looks a lot nicer too. It is also the Mcleod unit. Congrats on the Kieth Craft motor, I love mine, you will love yours too. DON |
