Can't fit spark plug socket into head

Does somebody make an extra thin spark plug socket? I've got a a set of world products windsor jr aluminum heads on a 351w, and I cannot fit any standard spark plug socket in to get the plug out.

Any help?

Mr Moo,
Is the socket hitting your header flange? take a close look. This happened on my friend Paul Risch's Classic Roadsters Cobra. The wonder boy that built the car for him (destroyed it is more like it) just screwed the spark plugs in by hand because no socket would fit. .....Believe it or not

I have the Trick/Flow twisted aluminum heads on mine and a regular spark plug wrench won't begin to work easily. So I just went down to the local hardware store and bought a deep socket that size and it is about half the thickness and it works great. Also as Steve mentioned, check that you aren't hitting a header flange.

CORRECTION -- After reading Rick's post I went and looked and I got my thin wall plug wrench at NAPA. The deep socket that i got at the hardware store was to get to some bolts on the Comet.

Cowtown cobra Snapon and macto both sell thin wall sockets for spark plugs. You can order one on the internet direct from them. Rick Lake

Craftsman (Sears) works fine, as mentioned double check header flange.

After I installed new headers on my FFR. One of the plugs was close to the flange. Rather than remove the header I ground down an old spark plug socket.
It is now a thin wall.

New Problem.

I have a set of world products windsor jr alum. heads on my 351 windsor. I had autolite 3924's on it , but put in a set of autolite 5503 single platinum plugs. Sound like **** now, didn't run it but about 10 minutes, must be pre detination.

Am I on the right track or did something else break?

Are you runniing an MSD or Jacobs type ignition? They don't like platinum plugs and won't run worth a darn.
